I'm about 7 weeks out. I can't believe how much my stomach growls.

Anyone else with this problem?

Mine doesn't growl, but it makes a gurgling noise from time to time. I named my band BOB...."big ol' band" and everytime it starts gurgling where other people can hear it....I say "Oh Bob shut up and mind your own business!" It gets a giggle out of my husband every time!

Mine growls....and growls loudly......I was so afraid that it would start growling really loud in church...that would have been so embarrassing...

YUP! My band talks all the time. I was embarrassed at first, but it's growing on me. My 2 year old thinks it's hilarious!

I am just sly of 2 weeks post-op and am already growling!!! I just laugh sometimes because it is so loud. At first I was worried but I realized they said once you heal you will be hungry until your first fill. I do the same as Iluvharleys - drink Water first and if it still is growling after 30 mins I eat a little something. I sure hope this gets better!

Thanks you all so much for your replies!

Sorry it took so long for my response....the board has been so slow. Not sure if it's my computer or not.

I made sure I ate something before my dentist appt. this morning...it sure happens at the strangest times!

The growling for me did end up stopping.

I was always confused. I always wondered if it was my big stomach or my little stomach?

I was banded two days ago and the gurgling/growling is so loud. I have started to talk to it like the Seinfeld episode when his girl friends stomach growls and he says Heelllooooo! It just makes me laugh every time. I do need to name it.....what a good idea.

P.S. Edie I have been following your progress and you look great, what and inspiration for us newbies!

Yes, it definitely growls and make funny noises, particularly each time after I have a fill (had six fills during these 2 years since I've been banded) I think it has something to do with the stomach adapting itself to its new reality of living with the band around it. Drinking Water usually takes care of it.

Mine doesnt do it when I'm upright and moving around, but the minute I lie down in bed at night it starts up, really loud and really funny. DH and I often lie there having hysterics.

I named mine The Beast. It lets loose about every 3-4 hours daily. Then I throw it a "bone" and it shuts up for a while. It used to be extremely loud, the firwt month post-surgery, but it's quieting down now. Actually, I really rather enjoy it. It reminds me that things are working...

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
