When did you start losing the weight?

Recommended Posts

For those of you who have been banded for a while.... Was there an approx month (1-3 months, 3-6 months, 6 months etc...) when you felt you were really starting to lose weight. I've heard ppl say that its easiest to lose between the 6-12 month mark?? Just wondering. I do realize that everyone is going to lose a little differently but I just wondering if there was an average.

Well, for me, its been a steady thing--I've averaged about 10 pounds a month since being banded. I think it does come off a little quicker in the early months, just because the more you weigh, the quicker you will lose. I have started to slow down a little now that I am at the 6 month mark, but I am still very happy with my progress!

I got my band on April 28th of 2006. Between that date and my first fill in June, I gained weight. I didn't feel much restriction with my first fill. I went in for my second fill at the end of July, 2006. Between my first and second fill, my weight remained the same. But, once I had that second fill I finally felt restriction and the weight started coming off pretty easily. Then, I hit my first plateau about 5 weeks ago and my weight stayed the same. I was excited to get on the scale today and see I finally broke the plateau with a 3.4 pound loss! Hopefully things are back on track again now.

I lost quickly at first, gradually slowed down after a year - now at 14 months I'm still losing but the plateau's are longer. However....I have average 10 pounds a months over the entire period and I'm still losing. Don't fret over the plateau's ....they just happen....doesn't mean it the weight loss has ended!!

I'm so glad to hear things like your stories. I lost a bit in the first couple of weeks after surgery, but now...no losing and hunger returning. I've not yet had my 1st fill...but reading about your stories gives me hope during the plateau period. I've got to wait until June 5th for my 1st fill...I hope it helps curb the hunger. I'm trying to stay down in calories...and upping the exercise. Anyway, thanks....for the support. :)

From day 1. I lost very quickly at first, didnt experience any regain when I went onto solids and it kept literally falling off till I"d hit about 20kg. That took me about 5 months. Then it came off more slowly and since the 12 month mark I havent really lost anything more than a couple of kilograms. I'm in my healthy weight range now, so it doesnt really matter anymore.

I lost very little the first 4 ish months. I'm 20 months out now and have lost 80 lbs. I have had multiple fills and unfills.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
