I got on a scale today. Ugh. This un-banded stuff sucks.

Why does the weight come off so slowly, and come ON so damned FAST!!! :)

That's one of the big mysteries of my life too, Alex.

I know exactly what you're feeling. I always wondered why I could stop smoking in a snap because I wanted to get preg. 20 yrs. ago, but can't stop over-eating!

Do you think that sub-consiously you're enjoying another "last hurrah" because you're being re-banded on 6/4? I

Do you have to go on liquids pre-re-banding? If so, that will help you out.

Hoping you're having better weather today that we in NY are (murky, rainy, yuk) to get out & enjoy yourself.

hugs,

Karen

There isn't anything unconscious about my last hurrah, I'm afraid. There are so many things I've been missing over the last three years--well, it's not the things so much, but the way I ate things that I've missed. So I've been eating raw fruit in huge bites, salads with huge chunks of raw vegetables, pizza, sushi rolls, whole sandwiches of every description, and the things my husband makes with the girls (brownies, cupcakes, chocolate-covered strawberries). These are all things I did only in tiny nibbles if at all while banded.

Of COURSE I know this is what got me to 340, but my primal brain can't put the brakes on. I'm trying to be "good" and all it's getting me is self-loathing. Ugh.

I don't actually know if there is a pre-surgery diet; there wasn't the first time I had it done and so far no one has mentioned it to me. Two days before is my anniversary dinner, though, so I sure hope there isn't. See? There I go again. Ugh.

If it's the same doc you should be able to have your anniv. dinner.

My doc is being so nice because of the situation w/my husband that he scheduled my RNY pending approval for 6/18. Day after my b'day. Do you know how BUMMED I was to discover that the day before surgery I have to be on liquids? There goes my well-planned sushi, steak, wine & dessert dinner. We'll just have to have it the week before. LOL!:hungry:

Your re-banding is right around the corner. Heck, I don't blame you for enjoying fruits & veggies again. I slurped up a whole mango this a.m., something I couldn't eat the entire time I was banded! Like you, I'm enjoying all the "bad" stuff too. I think I'm eating all that stuff in vast quantities in case I get denied. Then I can go get re-weighed w/a higher BMI. Seeing it in writing makes me feel like a real nut-job!

Alex, you are one of the most supportive and sane people on this board--give yourself the same love that you give everyone else.

Karen, thank you. I needed that. I sure don't feel sane, quite.

While it's not the same situation, I can somewhat relate. I lost my restriction for a while due to a dilated pouch recently, and I rapidly packed on about 7 pounds during that time period (which was especially scary because I have had plastic surgery for the loose skin and didn't want to stretch my skin out again!).

I was so shocked at how different I felt about eating without my band to rein me in. Even after several years of being "trained" to eat sensibly by the band, without the band I was back to my old self...yikes.

I strongly believe that overeating has more to do with genetic factors (like genetic differences in how we experience satiety and stuff like that) rather than "willpower", so I don't think any of us should be beating ourselves up about that sort of thing.

Fortunately, once I had my band filled again (even though I'm not as tight as I was before), it definitely made a difference for me and those extra pounds came off pretty quickly again. I'm sure that once you have a new band things will get right back on track. :)

Good luck with your surgery!

So I called the surgeon's office yesterday to see if everything was in order for June 4, and to find out what time I was going to have to be at the hospital. Well, there was no answer to the time question (they don't schedule it until the day or so before), but there IS an insurance problem. Seems my insurance denied the request for precert because my BMI is too low. Saw that coming.

The insurance person at the office said that first thing Tuesday morning we will talk and they will expedite an appeal. She said that is usually turned around in 48 hours. If that's denied, though, I am SOL. I certainly don't have the $20,000 I'm sure it would cost here.

Now I have to get through Memorial Day weekend without overeating due to stress. Ugh. Ugh. Ugh.

I second what KarenB said about you, Alexandra -- you are an amazing role model and advocate for the band... words you have posted have educated, motivated, and helped me countless times.

Best of luck with all of this... if anyone can persevere through, it's you! Look how far you've come!

My best thoughts are with you!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
