how long is the Gastric Sleeve surgery ?

Recommended Posts

Mine took around 4hrs. They did the sleeve, took my gallbladder out, found and repaired a hernia - thought they might have nicked something so had to take extra time to check & put in a drain

45 minutes, compared to roughly two and a half hours for the RNY. However, the wait and delay time and all the rigmarole in the pre-op and recovery areas make that a negligible part of the total time commitment. I arrived at the hospital at 8 for a 9:30 procedure, but I wasn't taken in until almost noon, and I took a while to recover because I was so nauseated by the pain meds. By the time I was actually aware of my surroundings and awake in my nursing floor room it was early evening and dusk was gathering.

How long did your surgery take? My mother asked the PA and she said about 3 hours. I'm guessing that's worst case scenario, cause I keep reading different amounts of time.

Mine was over in about 45 minutes. Probably depends on the skill of the surgeon and complexity of your case.

My surgeon came by just before my surgery and said it take an hour of the sleeve and a bit longer for the abdominal hernia repair.

I think my surgery started at 7:45am.

It was all a blur. I'd asked for a pre-op Valium to chill me out. Great move.

I was done with surgery and recovery room and in my hospital room by mid morning.

They let me rest for a while and then I was up walking early afternoon.

Mine was an hour and a half. But I was in the recovery room longer, I had a hard time waking up. Surgery was at 9:30 am and I also, was up walking in the afternoon. It helped relieve a lot of gas right away. I took a few walks at night with the nurse Sandi, she was fantastic!

A special thank you to... Dr. Pesta from McLaren Macomb Hospital in Michigan. His office and surgery staff, Nancy RN who kept me calm before surgery and especially... Sandi RN and my RN who due to all the meds I think was Pat? (you were with me from the start getting to my private room) I will update name later when I find out. Great program at this hospital!

You guys went above and beyond!✨

My actual surgery took a little over 1 hour. The Doctor said he was pleased and all went according to plan. The recovery room was an additional couple of hours, I think (I had NO concept of time until I was transferred to my room AND slept for a while).

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
