My time in the surgical OR was 66 minutes. The nurse reiterated it over and over again. I was in recovery for about 90 minutes then in my room. Discharged the next afternoon.

I think the recovery after surgery is what takes the longest!

. Wow! That's good to know! Thanks for sharing! Love your name! I am anxious, because my surgery is coming up soon on June 29th.

My surgery lasted a little less than an hour, but I was in recovery for 2 hours. It really does depend, but most doctors can do the surgery in about 45 minutes.

Sleeveking, mine too! My surgeon did it in 45 minutes and my recovery was 2 hours. I was discharged that afternoon when I could walk, pee, and pass the swallow test/upper GI xray.

I was told that the actual VSG surgery is approx. 1 hour. If hernia repair is required add 30 mins.

Recovery is 1 hour. If you use CPAP, they may add an hour (depends on your breathing and O2 levels).

So, from when you are taken to the OR, from when your family can see you varies between 2 hours and 3-4 hours.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
