I was one of the last patients of the day. There were delays caused by someone else's surgery.

I checked in at 10am and was prepped by 11 or so. They didn't take me to surgery until around 3pm. I was out of recovery and in a room by 630pm. I also had hernia repair on my esophagus so that may have added a little time.

I was talking to my husband before 7pm and walking before 9pm. I got up several times during the night and walked.

I walked several times in the morning and checked out the next day at 1pm and came home.

Had a 5 hour drive so we had to stop every hour or so and I had to get out and walk.

All the walking really helped me leave the hospital earlier and feel better at home. I still walk many times s day.

Surgery was 12/22/14

I had a hernia repaired but my actual surgery time was 1.5 hours. I also had a hernia repaired. But I don't remember much, just waking up in recovery afterwards.

I was told 3 because by the time they put you in the room and you get put under the doctors scrub then they cut you then sew you back up then you wake up the you go to your recovery room that should be about 3 hours lol

I was at the hospital by 8am and taken back to the OR at 9:30 and my mom says my surgeon talked to her at 11:30am. I woke a little in recovery because of pain and then woke in my hospital room at 4pm.

At hospital 6 am, taken back about 15 minutes, was in a small room for urine, iv, etc, for about 30 minutes, then taken to pre-op, then talked with nurses, surgeon, anesthesia, then he knocked me out, I was in a room in about 2.5 hours.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
