Had my first fill- HUNGER came roaring back???

Recommended Posts

After surgery, I found I wasn't very hungry and couldn't eat much more than a small chicken breast, a can of tuna or maybe a small dinner salad. Not all three mind you, one of those would fill me up completely.

Then I got my first fill. 5cc in a 10cc band. Now, when I don't eat I am STARVING and I can actually eat an almost-normal-sized meal.

For instance, I ate all the meat and most of the veggies off a fajita skillet at Chilis Restaraunt today, as well as some appetizer...

My body is so damned wierd... Thinking about having the fill removed and seeing if my hunger goes away again! LOL.

Cascadian, that happened to me my last fill. I was so worried, I was in a panic. BUT one week later the fill kicked in and whoooooooooweeee, it was tight.

Sometimes there is no making sense of this band and fills, but I promise there will be restriction.

Take care and keep us up on what's happening.

I didn't really start getting restriction feelings until after my second fill and then it only lasted a few weeks but after the third fill -- wow -- what a difference!

I have also heard other people mention the same thing that you did - strange, I agree - but give it a week or so and then see how you feel, it may kick in with a vengence!

Good luck! :)

These band are funny, fickle things aren't they? Mine seems to change almost daily--some days I feel very restricted and eat next to nothing, and other days--look out! There's just no rhyme or reason to it. I agree that you should give it a week or so and see how you feel. Good luck!

Actually, I had my fill about two weeks ago! LOL.

Hasn't changed, other than the usual daily fluctuation on

"tighter" when I get up and "looser" later on.

Have you called your doctor to see how long you need to wait before getting another fill? I know it took a couple of fills for me before I really felt any restriction, but when I did kick in, it was wonderful!

Thank you to all of you who posted your experience here. That is half the journey for me and the questions I have.

I had restriction after surgery for two to three weeks. Then boom, one morning I woke up with a roaring hunger. The grand thing is I eat nothing close to my old ways.

My first fill will be June 7th. I'll let you know how it goes.

Mornin!!

Cascadian- I have not been filled yet, so this is not personal experience.. but I read "Lap-Band for Life" by Dr. Ortiz and he covers this in the book.. that there is a delay due to air bubbles, and the liquid moving up the tube and things like that. I've also heard from other people that in 2 weeks they're where the fill is going to be, so it sounds like you're ready for another fill :)

I wonder if when you had your fill, they drained the air and (book says liquid gets in there before your first fill sometimes, I don't remember from where), and maybe that was taken out, fill was put in, but now you need more fill!

Either way, it does sound normal!

Hey Cascadian! You're really dropping the pounds!

The restriction after my first fill didn't last very long. My second, I started feeling restriction, the third was better yet. I had a "top off" of my third fill on Thursday (now have 8.5 cc). I hope this lasts, cause I'm where I want to be. I eat about a 1/4 lb meat patty, maybe less. I have to keep sipping Water as I can't chug any more.

Hang in there, it'll happen!

Bruce

Right on, thanks for the advice and experiences, everybody.

I cannot eat anything like what I used to... I'm eating half or less and staying full longer. But those first few weeks of "four bites and I'm done" sure were nice. :)

I have monthly fill appointments and phentermine (hunger control/weight loss pills) until I get good restriction. The pills will probably continue until I am at goal weight.

As the Doctor pointed out, weight loss pills work great until you stop taking them... Then you gain it all back. Unless, of course, you have a properly-restricted lapband installed. LOL.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
