Rash on abdomen after 1st fill

Recommended Posts

I had my first fill today. I was 3 wks post op on Thursday of last week so now about 3.5 wks. The fill went with no problems. Put in 2 cc. Late this evening I developed an itchy, raised rash over most of my stomach. I haven't changed detergent/soap or tried any new food. Could this be related somehow to my fill? I took benadryl and put hydrocortisone cream on and the itchiness is better but the rash is still there. It isn't any worse and only on my belly. I plan to call doctor in the morning. Any thoughts?

Possibly an allergic reaction to the cleaning solution they used prior to accessing the port?

Ever had a reaction when giving blood/etc before?

It was just an alcohol pad. Never had a reaction before.

Not sure if your doc used numbing med, but some of this thread sounds similar...

Possible reaction to numbing medicine. Could be a coincidence and could be from something unrelated like change in laundry detergent, soap etc.

Also, did the Dr put a bandaid on the injection spot. Could be reaction to type of glue? I know I developed a rash from the bandaid over the port site and had a nasty looking rash.

It seems to be gone today so I'm not sure what it was.

Glad it's gone. Did they numb you first? I didn't get any numbing, but it was really not painful or uncomfortable.

He did numb my skin with lidocaine, but that just adds an extra poke. I would have been ok without it I think.

I wonder if you're allergic to lidocaine and that's what caused the rash.

I don't think so because I've had it before.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
