Has anyone taken up Bycyling?

Recommended Posts

There are new ergonomic grips available for bikes that apparently help with hand tingling. Available in high end bike shops for about $50.00. Personally I just accept it as part of the sport and shake out my arm when it starts.

Also, having a bike that fits is very important. The cyclist lingo is the right "geometry". Usually the more expensive the bike the more adjustments optionsand the more possibility of finding the perfect fit.

I actually have three bike I use for different purpose. A $50.00 garage sales bike that was my first and that I use for short rides on rough roads, and mid range hybrid ($450.00) I use to run around town and a touring bike that I use on rides 30 to 60 miles. It was about $1800.00.

My advice is that if you want to continue to challenge yourself and extend your rides beyond your neigborhood, you should find a good bike shop and seek assistance in finding the right bike for you.

Good equipment goes a long way in make the sport enjoyable for aging bodies.

Happy riding...

E

THANK YOU!

I have been riding for about a year and started with a hyrbrid. This is a new bike so I am getting use to it and making adjustments as I go.

I know that it takes time to get use to that, and want to make the right adjustments. I will be taking it in to my LBS where I purchased it this week for an adjustment.....

Thanks for the advice....

HP, I am still laughing at the thought of BG taking her tires out of her bike and blowing them up really really big and paddling around her house after her house got all wet from open windows!!!!!

Hopefully it was not really that bad!!!

The weather has been so crappy here too. We did get out last night for a 15 miler, but I need some time on my bike. Raining again today, so doubt it will happen tonight. Well, maybe one day soon we can go out again and ride.

Hey bycylers - checking in from Boston. No biking for me here. I have tentatively scheduled the week of July 28 for starting to bike at home. Very tired of the no biking thing. Also very tired of the traveling thing.

BG & J - glad y'all got to ride together last weekend! That must've been a blast.

Haven't seen any more discussion of the DFW october trip lately - is that still in the plans?

Hi gang.

HP, we're here but I think since we are all getting beyond a year post surgery our commitment/interest in the boards are waining. It just happens.

I do check in pretty frequently.

I'm still worried about Stef.

The ride was great. And seeing BG in person is always a treat. We both agree that we are more similar than we are different and giggle each time that becomes apparent.

Sorry to hear you won't make it to DFW, HP. It's on my agenda. B, I've not checked the website for any updates, but I will. I want to go to Texas just cuz. Having a LBT conference makes it all that much more appealing.

As for the cycling conversation (I'm all over the place today) looks like you get specific answers if you ask questions. We aren't novices like we were this time last year, so there's less to discuss. Well, and I'm on my bike less because of school. Anyone else venture to guess why?

XO

I wish we could all quit "life" and just ride....instead of just do it...its just ride...

ZZ hasn't checked in for a while either.

I know for me personnally I went through the withdrawal times and spent many months away. I think it is very much the thing that J said. We are past our year and life just goes on. I don't know...

BG, sorry it was almost that bad. It was a funny thought and tickled my funny bone.

I'm here. I just don't feel like I have anything to add...

I'm still worried about Stef too, I wish she'd check in just to say hey...

Congrats on your cycling efforts....i love it too...but i use it as intervals...cycle hard for a period of 30 secs followed by low intensity for 2 min - rinse ad repeats....wow, it's hard but feels good

daba373..

when riding for a long period that is good advice....But, I like to keep my cadence at the same level if possible.

I do interval training when I'm running..okay when I used to run. It's a great way to burn more calories in a shorter amount of time.

I'm like HP, I try to maintain my cadance but I'm a distance rider at this point. I tend not to bother getting on my bike unless it's 50+ mile ride.

I'm such a snot. Really it's about time. I'd just assume go to the gym if I only have an hour to work out.

BG, A and I are doing this ride on the 22nd.

ARe there any rides happening in your part of Ohio that we all might want to do? You split the difference between BG and me.

Well, we got some snow around our area last nite and into today. I haven't actually seen any, but in the mountains there is some. What a way to start off the summer huh? Well, I guess I should just be thankful I am not in the floods or the wild fires....

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
