J the amatuer work was from a long time ago.

TX yes they are MTB's. That's another thing I like about them, other than the fact that they are dead sexy.

Hi everyone!

BG- Your bike is awesome and super sexy too fer sure! I'm lovin' all your new stuff to go with it! Don't worry about clipping in and out..you'll get the hang of it right after you crash! lol

Seriously, you should keep one foot clipped in all the time. When you are riding, you'll want to clip out just one foot to stop (until you get so good you can balance at a stop light without clipping out!!!). I unclip my left foot always, some people use their right...just whatever is most comfortable. Leave the other foot in the whole time unless you are getting off the bike. But I'd find the one you prefer and stick to it. That will make things easier!

Here's my girl and my shoe/cleat setup. And hey! BG you are on MY SHOES, too! LOL I have the black pedals and B has the same ones in yellow.

P.S. Since the correction of the spelling of our thread name went awry, I put it back to it's original effed up state. I thought that it was more fitting, don't you?

TX I was looking at that bike too! It was a bit out of my price range though, but a very cute grey and pale yellow.

Well it was 45 when I leftmy house today and supposed to rain most of the day. That will melt all the snow. But....it is supposed to snow again tonight. WTF. I need spring like right now.

BG - Swwwweeeeeeeeeettttttt bike! I'm thrilled for ya'! Now if only the weather will cooperate so you can get out & ride her soon.

I've been up Chicago way talking to some men about a job. Hopefully, I will have some answers soon. If it works out, I will have to be there by early- to mid-April - just in time for bike season.

Missed everyone...

B

BG - Well, your bike is simply awesome! Love the color! When I went shopping, it was a toss-up between the Specialized and a Trek. I love Trek's. I will be praying for ride-able weather for you soon!

B - Just signed up for "Tour Dallas". It's a shortie, but it looks like it will be fun!

OK all. You know I'm shopping for a cheap ass bike. On Craigslist I found a guy who has 3 older model road bikes. One of those is a Trek from 1985 - and he wants $120 for it. I know that Treks are expensive but do you think that is too much to pay for a 20 year old bike?? The other two can be seen here in the ad - BIKES BIKES!!! Road and TRAIL Bikes!

I'd really appreciate your opinions!! I just need a quick cheap starter bike!! Oh... and I asked him about 'fit' since I'm 5'10" and he said that he is the same height so that they should work for me. I think I'm going on THursday to check them out...

BTW Stef - I like that you changed the thread back to bycyling!

Rock on BYCYLING!!!

$120 is too much for a 20 year old bike. You can call your LBS and ask them their opinions too. There may not be a Kelley's Blue Book out there but they have a clue.

I love all the bike pics! I got mine today, but we are waiting on the aerobars. I put $50 dollar tires on my baby too. Yeah each. If I throw more money at my bike I will ride better, right?

I hope everyone is well! HP, it was good to see you pop in.

I know we only really talk shop about bicycle or should I say bycyling, but I really wanted to share my news!

I saw the dietician today! I got my book-o-rules too. It defines each yummy stage from the ever satisfying liquid stage to the mouth watering mushy stage and so on. I am oh so excited for this part of the Band...NOT! However! I am so very excited to be even getting the book at all! LOL I told her all about Juli and her weight loss in less than a year...I said I wanna be like her!

It was a little scary at times though, because she kept telling me that if I eat too much, I can stretch my pouch and then it won't matter what I do, the band won't work anymore {biting fingernails}. She pulled out a 1/2 cup measuring cup and said "eventually you'll eat this much and this is what you'll eat for LIFE"!!!!! WOW! I can't imagine it, but am so ready and want to be successful so badly!

Anyone got some input?

I'm still sad when I only eat 1/4-1/2 cup food. I just miss eating! Especially when dining out with friends/family and seeing them realy enjoy stuff. I don't feel like I enjoy my food anymore, just cause I can't eat as much. My happiness always came with food quantity, Lol, I could care less about quality. I was always happier with 2 cheap tacos than with just 1 good one. Oh well... that is why I got FAT and now I'm getting SKINNY, so I deal with it.

YOu'll do great! It all really goes by so quickly. Somedays now I have to stops and really make myself think about what all I have been through this year. I had surgery for the first time ever, I've lost 92 pounds, I"ve learned to like exercise... Hahaha!! Enjoy every moment of your band journey!

Thank you ZZ!

I think I will miss eating too. I like to eat and it's very social for me, but I know that it's just a different approach with the band. I would think if I am slower (with the chewing), I would be able to savor the flavor (lol) and get more enjoyment from my meals. I currently just eat...like you I don't really care so much about quality. Sad, huh? The band is gonna help me fix that!

I am determined and am very motivated and excited about this! YAY for me!!

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Seems it would be more compassionate not to perform a WLS on someone until they are mentally ready for it. Unless of course they are on death's door...

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
