Has anyone taken up Bycyling?

Recommended Posts

I am going for work, but am staying right on the beach. My schedule is going to be pretty open in the afternoons and evenings and also the weekends, so yea...I brought the bike, which is why I drove.

You know the way you have your seat (forward or back) may have something to do with your knee pain. If you use clippless pedals the positioning may have something to do with it as well.

What part of Florida are your parents from?

Glad to see you back on the boards again

Thanks for the welcome back.

My parents are in Lady Lake, FL. One of those retirement communities. Sounds like you will have some scenic areas to ride in if you are on the beach, sounds lovely.

i have met up with someone who use to live in Indiana and she now lives in Jax...she has put me in touch of some different rides, some during the week and some actual events on weekends. So, I am planning on staying busy....I will have to. I am a home body and use to doing everything with my husband and kids....this is a huge deal for me. Which is why my bike is along....keep me smiling...:)

No riding this week for me - big doings at work. Will be changing employers soon. Will be my first new employer in more than 12 years. Kind of strange, but all good.

I'll be in DC next week for more client meetings and entertainment. Maybe, if they are (un)lucky, I'll give 'em a little lapdance :)...

Hope everyone has a good weekend - will try to check in some next week...

I'm not cycling right now. I catch my buddies in other places so I don't really feel the need to chit chat about life in general on here...

well, I finally mastered getting my freaking front tire back on my bike and got a nice ride on base in this morning. I have never done anything mechanically with my bike other than move my seat, so this was a challenge in itself, but now I have done it, I think I have it figured out...

it was pretty windy along the Atlantic and the head wind was fierce. I was able to see a ship leaving port, and all the sailors on deck in dress whites...pretty humbling experience....

I am going to try and get a ride in later this evening as well, or at least walk the beach...Have to stay busy or I am going to get homesick.....and I have a month to go..LOL

Well, hope everyone is having a great weekend...and I am glad that everyone is enjoying the fall weather

Just wanted to check in and see how ya'll were making out. Yesterday Oct 4 was my 1 year mark down 70lbs, not were I wanted to be but beats the yell out out of the 300lbs I was pushing before the band. Summer has been great lots of riding, about 70-75 miles a week. Hope all is well.

long to be...oh yea, it was defiantly a awesome ride. I have been invited to a park this weekend for some camping and riding...not sure about it just yet, will see how things go.

Buffet...hello there and great job on the weight loss......That is awesome that you are still riding and doing so well.

It is hard not to fall back into old habits...I say that from experience...:)

well, hoping everyone is having a nice monday

well just to let all you fellow bikers know....make sure you have what you need to change your tire....

had my very first flat today in good ole florida! Of course I have a good floor pump...in the car......7.25 miles away from where I start....Husband always takes the stuff we need to do flats, and we never had one yet. So...the ride was going so good....went up 3 larger bridges, just to have to walk my butt back to base......so...flat at 7.25 miles, and had to walk back 7.25...I am poooppped. But went to the bike store, and they fixed my flat, and I got what I need to take care of ME on the ride. WOW....long day....good experience and a good lesson.

Happy Tuesday...

Thanks for the pointer. I never think of taking something for flats when I go, of course, I'm not going that far yet but still far enough where I don't necessarily want to walk home.

One should always have on their bike a little pouch that holds an inner tube, a bike pump which connects to the frame, and the tools which are small to change a tire. Extra stuff are patch kits, etc, incase you get a second flat and need to patch your tube.

If you get into any kind of riding taking a class at the LBS is a good thing too. Changing a tire is something everyone should know how to do.

I miss my bike. sniff sniff.

well, just to clarify.....Since I am married and normally ride with my spouse, we together always have the things we need to take care of the maintenance on the bikes.

We both carry tubes and he usually carries the extra canisters of air, etc....Since this is my first time being away from him and the normal riding we do, it is just something that needed to be purchased, yet had not done so before the flat. I know how to change a flat, just had never had one to do before...

I still prefer riding with my Husband, but it is nice to know I am capable of doing things as a single person as well...dont like it and I hope I dont have to do it often, but it is nice to know it can be accomplished.

It truly is comical how much we take for granted.....I am still glad I brought my bike, wouldn't of had it any other way...but I am sure glad I have a husband that rides with me for the most part..sure makes it allot more enjoyable.

have a great evening

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
