Hey all. HP sniffed me out of my hiding place. I figured I'd come by here to check on ya'll. Just been busy with a new puppy - and eating badly. I need a kick in the rump, but not sure a 'virtual' one will do... My BFF just got her lapband a little over a week ago, and through talking with her and answering her questions I"ve been re-evaluating my own banding and remembering why i initially got the band and my old resolve and determination to LOSE THE WEIGHT. I might be good now. I'm trying...

Speaking of trying - puppy and I need to go for a walk.

Well if you insist!!

(This pup is the love of my life I could talk about him all day and night!)

He is a Lhasa Apso/Poodle mix. Found him on Craigslist for free... 7 days later he lost a fight with a stray cat and took a claw through his right eye - 7 hours, $1500 later we were home from his emergency surgery. Lol. He's good though. Might end up with a big cataract, but for now he can see pretty good!

BTW, his name is Tiki.

In the last pic he'd just been to the groomers, and she put bows in his hair.. not sure why - he's a BOY!

he is tooo adorable!!!!!!! I have pomeranians and a beagle. Just love them to death..but you are right they take allot of work....

Glad to see you on the board again....We miss you.

we all have our struggles, and I wish I lived by some of you so we could be there and support one another. But I guess this will have to do.

I got to ride again today. We had 11 people ride, 2 under age 14. We had a great time and it was great seeing the younger kids showing such enthusiasm.

Hi Boys and Girls,

Just wanted to check in with a quick "hi". I've been traveling for work all summer. Not much exercise, not eating well, and paying the price for it. I've gained about 20-25 from my low, and not happy about that at all.

I'll be making an appointment to get refilled, it will probably be about 4 weeks or so before the insurance company approves it (can't figure out why it took 3 days to approve the surgery and a month to approve a fill).

Also plan on getting back on the bike as soon as I get rid of this respiratory infection. Blech. I'm also looking at a cheap, used hybrid or mountain bike to ride in the woods at the park while the wife walks the dog. Should've hung on to my original hybrid, but oh well, live and learn.

Hope everybody is doing well.

gosh Mike, it stinks when work and life keeps us from doing what we know works. I have the same problem, and when I am stressed I dont watch nearly as closely as if not.

I wish you luck getting back on track...I know you can do this!!!!

I bet your bike seat misses that butt..............

I got to get on the bike for a quick training ride last nite. I was just needing to GO. So, we went to the area we normally ride, but started someplace different with a goal in mind to do hills. We did, we knocked it down and just rode. It was ehilirating and exciting, and had good averages....the cold air bothered my chest though, but it felt so good.

The only bad thing is you cant really get a good "distance" in, but the workout alone was awesome.

Here is a shot of me with my bike as we got ready to leave....we are crazy I know....but I love my bike.....

HP - Thanks for the welcome back. It does stink that life gets in the way sometimes. But, other than a trip to DC in early October, my travel for the year is just about done.

I have learned several things, though:

1 - Exercise is critical. With appropriate exercise, food choice is not nearly as important. In order to get where I want to be, exercise is a requirement. A summer of no exercise has been devastating to my health and weight loss goals.

2 - My band does not work the way that I thought it would. Pre-band, and even somewhat post-band, I assumed that my properly-adjusted band would allow me to eat a small amount of anything, while preventing overeating. It just doesn't work that way. I can eat all I want of some foods (if you slather it up with a few hundred calories of salad dressing), and none of other foods (typically lean proteins).

3 - The support provided by this group was invaluable. Having a shitty day, write to the bycylers. Don't go out and eat crap. Having a great day, write to the bycylers. Don't go out and eat crap.

So, what the hell do I do now?

1 - Get back on the bike. In addition to my recumbent, I'm looking for a good, used, inexpensive mountain bike. That way, I can ride in the woods at the park while the wife walks the dog. I've been walking since I got back home. Will need to do more. Also re-upped my BodyBugg subscription. I think, ultimately, I won't use it long term, but it is good to provide information about consumption and expenditure of calories.

2 - Get refilled. At least when I was more fully filled, I could only get liquids/mushies down. Protein Shakes, here i come...

3 - Rejoin my good friends here in bycyling land.

BBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBB

You know I'm on IM and I'll chat you up if I can.

I hear you about exercise and life getting in the way. I was at a conference since Sunday and I didn't eat well or exercise and I feel like a pile of poo. Multiply that by a summer and it could easily add up to 30 pounds.

Ick.

And I know what you mean about being able to over eat if you try. Mind you I don't eat gobs of food like back in the day, but certainly more than I need or should eat.

Yeah, I eat more dressing and mayo now than I used to. I'm tisking myself here and shaking my head, no, no, no.

Glad to see you back.

HP, Love to see that you are riding. Girl, you are such a cyclist!!!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
