HP~ Orlando is usually worse b/c there is no sea breeze that we have living on the ocean...not that its still not hot and humid here. I went to college in Orlando and it was always hot and no breeze...yuck. However you will be getting a breeze here in the next day or two with the Hurricane! Of course we never know where that is going until it is knocking on your door!

Hope you are having fun!

Is anyone else having a problem uploading photo's to their albums or avatars??

I have been trying all weekend and I keep getting error messages stating that my upload has failed or that there is a security problem.

I send the error message to the network administrator but he says there are no problems...or they have been fixed...yet I still cant add pictures

yes, once we finally got checked in on sat we were all good. had a good first day at the conference and most importantly found the outlet mall...hahaha

of course it was closing in 30 min, so we have to go back..and they have a pearl store there, and the guy gave us information on where to go and get a bike rental....pretty cool. So hoping we dont get any rain...which I am sure we will...but can always hope....maybe one of the days...we will see.

I am hoping to get some news from back home tommorow too....and hoping it is all good.

Well....you stay safe in your area too....

Wow! I sure don't have time to read the last 500 pages of this thread but wanted to jump in here to ask a question.

I was banded about 2 1/2 months ago and once the healing was going and the soreness getting better, I started walking. I have lost 30 lbs but now its slowing down considerably. Not at the proper restriction yet but I am getting another fill this thursday.

BF and I have been talking about bikes and the possibility of riding the Katy Trail (across Missouri) at some point. I KNOW its going to take some time to get in shape for a long ride like that so we may not do the trail till next year.

Can anyone recommend a good trail bike? I don't know much about whats good and not. I need something comfortable on my rear and preferably light enough I can lift the thing onto a bike rack. I like the look of the straight handlebar vs the curled ones. I like the thicker tires of mountain bikes vs the skinny racing bike tires. What do you ride and how do you like it? Also, it needs to be not real expensive...I saw some online from 250-400 and its going to take a while before I can come up with that much money! Thanks for your suggestions. In the meantime, I will keep walking!

hello and welcome

I have heard allot of good things about the katy trail and we are also planning on riding there. I heard that the ground is a nice hard compact chip and seal and a hybrid bike does wonderful on the trail. I sold my hybrids and just have my road bike, but am going to get a different set of tires just for the trail.

The Giant FCR hybrid/road bikes have a nice sit up on them. They have the same type of features as a road bike but handelbars like a mountain bike. I also know my other hybrid was a trek and it is also a good bike....Giant is a little cheaper...

I know you think you need a big seat for some comfort on your butt..but actually the smaller ones are easier than you think...not as much friction. ALthough the gel seats are really nice but they offer them as well. My FCR had a good seat and I liked it...when I got my new road bike, I changed that seat out.

Let me know if you ever do the trail..would love to hear someone elses take on it.....I want to do it this season....if time allows.

good luck

Whew! Crazy weekend! We drove to Celina, Ohio for a parade today. Our bicycle club (Hancock Handlebars) was invited to participate so a group of us went to ride our bikes in the parade. It was so cute and so much fun! Lots of tandems and a few high wheelers. Only a few of us had road bikes!!! After the parade we went to Grand Lake and rode a trail there. It was awesome! I got almost 20 miles in today...but I don't think the millions of 'circles' we made during the few blocks of the parade will count as a workout! LOL

J- CONGRATULATIONS!!! We've missed you around here and I'm so happy for you! I know you've worked so hard and you look absolutely beautiful in your dress and cap/gown! Sorry you have to start classes so soon.

Thanks, hoosierpoms! I recognize some of those brand names. Thurs BF and I are going to a bike shop in Columbia, MO to see what they have. I have also heard that its a pretty drive along that trail. I know I will have to work my way up to doing the whole trail! First around my neighborhood, then maybe a day trip on the trail. I don't even know how long the trail is. Gonna have to google it to learn more. I will let you know when I am ready to hit the trail!

Juli - Congrats!! You look gorgeous in that dress (and those biker-chick-calves) and oh-so intelligent in the cap and gown. A reflection of lots of hard work.

D - Glad you had no more episodes of belly pain.

Strike Up - I'm by no means an expert, but I had a Trek Hybrid and love-love-loved it. They are so dependable, you may be able to find one used. Good luck!

TL - Good luck on braving the storm!

Thanks for all the kind words everyone. The dress was amazing. It was on sale, it fit perfectly, it was a 14 petite. Did I tell you I can wear petites? I'm making my own self laugh.

SUB, that would be you Strikeuptheband, I love that you are getting interested/psyched to ride the Katy Trail. We all found different ways to spark our interest in riding, and that seems like a good one.

HP, enjoy Florida. You're going to have a great time.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
