I just put on hybrid pedals too. They are platform on one side and SPD on the other. I just bought some hybrid walk around cycle shoes to go with um too. It's a step backward from my Crank Bros egg beaters and Nike carbon road shoe, but a girl needs to do what a girl needs to do.

BG,

Alison said she'd be looking for you tomorrow. How jealous am I that you and my GF are on the same ride, and I am NOT?!

J,

OMG, my DH just asked me what you decided to do about your pedals!!! I'm so glad you found a solution (even if temporary)! I love the fact that I can walk around in mine. It makes such a difference. I don't see it as a step backward for you, I see it as a solution! This may give you the opportunity to get more comfortable with clipping in and out and all that!

So your GF and BG will ride together??? How cool is that?

We talked about it, and he is game so far! We need to be sure of our schedules before we register. He does care! I can't wait to meet up again. He wants to meet you too. Maybe one of these meetings he'll come along!

Have you registered yet? (Lansing)

If we get a break in the weather tomorrow, I'm totally riding around my neighborhood!

Oh I've not registered for Lansing.

I'm not registered for the Horsey 100 which is two weeks before that either!

Note to self, register.....

I'll be driving into and out of Lansing that day. No hotels for me. I think Alison will be along for the ride as well.

I got some 'post-op' pedals for my bike! LOL They are pretty cool actually. They have the clip inside, but are flat like a regular pedal all around it so you can choose whether you use clipless pedals or regular shoes. My LBS guy hooked me up because I'm so worried about falling while I'm still so fresh from surgery.

~C

Hey C, which pedals did you get? I have speedplays, but after my disastrous first trip out with them, I have clipophobia on the road. I had the platform/SPDs like J on my old bike, and I might go with those, but was also looking for some other options as well. BTW - very envious, my doc wouldn't let me ride for about 6 weeks after surgery. I would have loved to start riding 2-3 weeks afterwards...

Okay, since my partial unfill on Tuesday, I've been able to eat solid foods for the first time since August. OMG. I have missed real food. Must. Be. Very. Careful. I've done pretty good so far with calorie intake, and haven't had anything that I shouldn't have. Haven't lost anything, haven't gained anything. I'll have to crank up Fitday again, though, to make sure that I don't slowly crank up the number of calories I eat. And I have to get back on the bike. Must. Ride. It.

Just sharin'

I normally ride with Shimano SPD's. I use a mountain shoe so the cleat is recessed. I prefer that over road shoes (you know, walking like a duck). My cleats are small and double sided. Right now while I'm healing, I don't want to risk clipping in and not being able to get out in time if there were a fall so I am putting on the platform/SPD's temporarily.

I have been on a bike for many years (was a mountain biker first) and I keep just love these pedals. They are easy to use, easy to adjust and I like the shoes a whole lot better. Some people don't think you should use mountain bike stuff on road bikes and vice versa, but now people are seeing the comfort in some of the mountain bike stuff and are calling them 'hybrid'. I've even converted the LBS owner from the road bike stuff to ones like mine!! LOL

I had tried several different pedals on the advice of many, but kept falling. Made it miserable. I started to not want to go anymore. It put fear in me that I hadn't had before. The last fall I had upset me so much I told them all I quit! They had my old (the ones I use now) pedals on my bike that night! LOL I know it sounds ridiculous, but the gear you use can make or break your ride. Price isn't everything either. You don't necessarily have to have a big name or the most expensive, latest trend to find the right product. It can take some tweaking.

I hope you found the answer you were looking for in that very long story about pedals!! Sheesh, sorry!

You can do it B!!!

Awesome job Stef.

J- It is looking like the ride is off for me. The sore throat from hell has taken a turn for the worse. My uvula is so swollen that is touching the bottom of my mouth. I can't swallow anything and the rest of the throat is so swollen that I can barely breathe. I can't fight it anymore. I am going to hop in the shower and head over to the ER because I don't think I can wait for urgent care to open at 8. I am so pissed right now.

*EDIT*

Well that may very well have been the quickest ER visit ever. I have strep probably. They gave me some numbing stuff and the delicious pink stuff. I heart amoxicillan. And 2 days off work lol. So since I am supposed to rest....I could rest after the ride right?

It is no wonder I am sick.

It's a beautiful day! I don't have any PRESSING homework and the kiddo wants to ride.

I'm tired as can be though from her sleep over/carnival at work today. I figure I need to see about clipping in and out my SPDs so we just may well ride down to the park and back...ugh...my road bike on the sidewalk, it's so, so annoying.

BG,

Hell, they gave you medicine, you should be fine. Don't be a weenie. Ride.

HA, you'll be giving me shit next weekend if I don't kick this bug that I have. TOSRV may have to wait.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
