Has anyone taken up Bycyling?

HP, way to go!!! Keep up the great work! John's new bike is very cool!!

Happy belated Easter everyone. I got that fill just in time to avoid the food frenzy madness, and even got in a short couple mile ride this weekend.

Have any of you been given a B-12 prescription? The Dr. I am now working with wants me to do a monthly shot. I guess it is time to get over my needle phobia. They gave me a quick course in how to self-administer but I still have concerns and would appreciate any input from any of you who are doing this. IE how fast, slow, deep or what to watch out for. What I am saying is, I would feel more at ease if I got feedback from someone who has been there and done that, so to speak. I am a little freaked out but committed to making this work.

J, I looked all over the net and I am leaning toward the Nikes for Bycyling shoes. I will go to one of the larger LBS, in Tampa/St Pete and try on as many as possible. My Lake, Sandals feel ok but not exactly great on longer rides. I did not use my head when I bought those. I wanted clipless pedals for my trike and let the LBS guy talk me into them without any research. Live and learn right?

Hope Everyone is well, JC

JC-

I was told I'd probably have to take a B12 supliment. In pill form. They have it as a sublingual (under the tongue) for RnYs since they'd not absorb it.

Why don't you look at those options before committing to giving yourself shots?

My X's grandmother used to do shots of B12 and she thought of herself as Wonder Woman afterward, like they gave her a huge energy boost. I don't know if it was in her head or not, but that's my only experience with them.

HTH.

Good luck with the shoes. Mine are comfy but more imporatantly they match my bike.

JC, I've never given myself a shot of anything, but I give shots to others daily!! With the B12 it's just an IM injectin, so choose your muscle... rotate site... (you don't want to do it in the same spot every time because you'll eventually damage the tissue and the medication will no longer absorb correctly.) Use whatever syringe they give you (duh, but at the hospital I get to choose what size I want to use, based on the patients weight, etc) Just cleanse the area you choose (remember muscle, not fat!!) and then insert the needle to the hub quickly (slow=pain) and inject medication. You don't hav eto do that part really fast, or really slow. Just whatever pace you are comfortable with. You can have your doc or nurse show you if you are still unsure. It is their job to be sure that you are 100% comfortable with the procedure.

B12 shots vs. pills:

I take the subligual pills, because I don't eat meat... B12 is the ONLY vitamin/nutrient that our bodies need that we cannot get from any other food source other than meat.

My Grandma, dad, and Aunt all take the monthly injections, but they all go to the doc for them, none of them do self admin of the injections. I'm not sure why. But anyway... they get them every 30 days due to pernicious anemia.

For cases like that, or other cases of low/absent B12 the sublingual pills don't work because the dose and absorption rates are different. And the shots really do give you a boost of energy! If you meet my Grandma, Dad, or Aunt the day after their shots they are wonderful ppl... meet them the day before their shots and they are BEARS!!

Thanks J, They told me I should notice an energy difference in a couple months. I will try to find a pair that match my bike, then search for comfort. ;-)

I am getting really pissed that I can't get my laptop to access any live video from the news stations. Gotta see if our crack pot criminal of a mayor is going to get indicted.

Thanks for the info ZZ. I think the needle is 3/8" long?? Don't quite remember but it looks very short. I was told arm or thigh would work out. They did not mention rotation. So I need to try to hit muscle? Seems like a short needle for that, but I am an overkill type person.

Yes, muscle. Not that hard to hit in the arm or thigh. I tend to do most of my patients in their deltoid muscles. Even on really obese ppl you can get to the deltoid pretty easily.

The prosecutor has taken both of them to town. Multiple perjury counts on both the Mayor and the Christine Beatty.

I am not gonna lie I was a little surprised to see it on CNN and stuff.

BG, sounds like you found one, cool deal.

ZZ, seems that would be a tricky spot on self. I will try it and see what happens. Thanks.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
