Has anyone taken up Bycyling?

J- a stalker? That's effed up! So did she just pick you out and start IMing you?

BG- Yeah, we are totally in for another storm! Tired of it...Do you realize that this weekend is Daylight Savings????? For crying out loud!

B- I hope you get the phone call too! We're all pulling for you!

EVERYONE: I saw the surgeon today...got to ask all my questions. He was good to me. I don't feel as satisfied as I thought I would. Not sure why. I was so excited to go, but left feeling a little bit like maybe he doesn't anticipate very good results with the band. I'm bummed---BUT, I think I will have to see this as a challenge and be the BEST band patient ever!

Oh...and there is a possibility that my surgery will be moved to April 1st (kinda cool date, huh?)! I really hope that happens...sooner rather than later is awesome by my book.

You're welcome, J! FUBAR = Effed Up Beyond All Recognition!

C - I'm SURE that is not the case with your doc! You will do great if you obey your band. Have faith and great optimism! It goes a long way!

Hey all.... I shouldn't say anything yet - cause I'm not sure how it's going to work out - but I bought a bike today. Haha. Got it at the Salvation Army Thrift Store... $24.99. She is a deep red color and looks good. Feels good. I have so far spent WAYYY more money on new tireds, tubes, air pump, a multi tool and back of the car rack thingie... the tires alone cost me more than the damn bike! Good think I was shopping cheaply!! She's a Columbia Calais - I tried to find a pic online of one, but came up empty handed... so whatever. I'm going to attempt to get her all shined up and new tires/tubes/ ect all put on before I take pics. Still need a helmet, I forgot to get one. Oh well, soo damn cold right now anyway, and I think its supposed to snow a bit tonight.

I'm excited anyway. HOPEFULLY next year I'll be able to get a 'real' bike. Hahah!

Alright, I had a nice wholesome post in response to Suzzzie...

My first 10-speed was a Columbia Vista Elite, purchased at the bike store next to Winnie's Fish & Pets, a store that TX and I spent an entire night waxing nostalgic for one night earlier in the year. Loved that bike. You will love your bike, too, ZZ...

Then, JC had to post about Mexican donkey bars - something best left in the rusty cobwebs of too many drunken evenings south of the border....

Thanks B. I really hope I like this bike!!

And the Bimbo thing is a brand of snack cakes in Mexico. I bought some when I was down in Houston a couple years ago. Yummy!

ZZ - Congrats on your new bike! I'm sure you will love it...especially after you get her all shined up with new tires and such. I'm so happy for you! (And red is my favorite color!)

TX--I guess I'm trying to say that I think my doc would choose RNY anyday over lap band. I am not a candidate for it, nor do I want it. When I asked him how much weight he would anticipate I'd lose, he wouldn't give me an answer (said, "if I say this much and you don't make it, then you're mad at me, if I say that much and you do better than you think I don't know". I can see his point, but in the beginning of all this he offered up stats and stuff like that. I wanted to find out how much weight his highest bander has lost, but the conversation never got there. I think I was looking for encouragement from him, ya know?

Don't worry, I will be optimistic...I am going to work so hard for this, and will surprise him I'm sure!

C - I'm sorry you didn't get the "warm fuzzies" from your doc today. My sis had RNY, and did fantastic. Even after her success, I knew it wasn't for me. I wasn't a candidate, either. Glad to hear that you are determined, though! I know you will do well.

Ergh! Argh! Cuss cuss cuss!

So.. after about an hour of trying and cussing and knuckle scraping... I can only get off one screw thingy to get the wheels off to change the tires and tubes. Lol. I nearly cried when I was remembering how my stepdad used to do all that stuff when I was a kid (he passed away 7 years ago this month). It was a crazy hour.

I finally gave in and called my father. I'll see him this Saturday anyway (my lil bro just got home from Iraq and we're having a shin dig for him) so I called and he said he'd get it fixed for me. I'm very grateful, but it still feels a bit like cheating on my stepdad. Haha. I have issues.

Either way - my bike WILL be all fixed up on Saturday! I need to finish shining her up a bit... when ppl donate crap to the Salvation Army they don't care what it looks like. Caked up mud all over her undersides. Ugh.

C- sorry about your doc not giving you want you wanted... but as a nurse you know that not all docs are good with that kind of stuff...

Oh yeah. Did I mention that I have NO padding on my ass and that the seat KILLS me!!! What kind of gel seats do you recommend?

ZZ- YAY for the new bike! Sorry you are having trouble fixin' it, but try to be patient and wait for Saturday! LOL

Gel Seats: There are so many to choose from, but I'd stay away from anything too "fluffy". Keep it very simple and small--less of your butt bouncing on the seat. Hard to explain, but the smaller the seat, the better if you can. Your butt will be sore in the beginning regardless of the seat, so don't give up too quick.

My doctor is Bulgarian, and I'm sure some of the "warm-fuzzies" get lost in translation. I'm just being pouty. Today I wanted to be the excited patient, not the nurse, ya know?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
