These are my pedals Shimano PD-M520 Reviews

Nothing fancy. The guy at the store said they were good for a beginner like me and I would probably only fall a few times trying to get out of them lol. Plus they were pretty inexpensive so I can't complain.

Is it dry and not snowy in Columbus? If so I will be down tomorrow lol. I wanna ride. I just keep staring at Big Sexy and drooling.

Oh and yeah I am going to try and get a new bike rack after the ODB freeway debacle. If I don't then I will get some extra bungees and crap to hold Big Sexy on there. But as long as I have no kids in the car she is riding in the backseat!

And glad you got some sweet new gear. I can not wait to get my new stuff. Not sure if I can wait until April. I need the helmet sooner so if the rents won't let me have it early then I will buy it myself. Your head has gotta match whats between your legs ya know? hahahha

The WOW group is out today, at 1, but I'm not there.

I'm hoping to pick up my bike on Wednesday and go for a ride of Thursday.

I love your bike!!! That's funny about falling over. I know I'll be on the ground a few times myself.

The season is upon us!!!!

I swear it seems so easy to getout of the pedal but a pita to get into them.

I am so jealous. We still have about 4 inches left on the ground but it is supposed to get up to 40 today. So maybe I can get out next weekend. I wold be in super heaven.

My shoe, since we are sharing....If you recall my bike is silver and pale blue. So it matches just too well.

BG, I love your name on your shoe. Too cool.

OK - so ya'll are just way above me... I have NO idea why there are special pedals on a bike, why you need to get 'in' and 'out' of them, why you need special shoes... WTF? WHen Iw as a kid I'd get a bike, I'd get on it and ride it... no special clothing or shoes or anything! The only 'special' things I had on my childhood bikes were those pink and purple and white tassel things from the handlebars and a plastic white wicker basket with plastic daisies on the front. I'm so lost and confused and yeah. I just admitted my ignorence... I'm officially the biggest dork of all!

ZZ what we are talking about are shoes that clip into the pedal. So your shoe is connected to the pedal (ie you could take your foot out of the shoe and the shoe would still be on the pedal). It is much more efficent than just having your foot on the pedal. Not only are you pushing down on the pedal to go faster but you are pulling up with the other leg. The problem comes in when you have to stop and you can't get your shoe to come out of the pedal. Then you crash.

Here are some pics of the bottom of the shoes and pedal. The cleat part in the middle of the shoe (the thing that says shimano) slips into the hole in the middle of the pedal in the second pic.

Yeah, I kinda got that much... but I don't really get the point? I guess it's just one of the 'extras' that I may desire in the future - ya know, once I actually get a bike and figure out if it's really true about never forgetting how to ride. Lol.

ZZ,

We aren't that far ahead of you! Well, I'm speaking for BG, HP, D and myself. (TX, B, and C have been riding for a while). We started down the road biking road just last summer. This will be our first full season and that's why we are running around all geeked out on biking junk!

B word on the street is that you might not CRASH but you'll definatly fall over. I can see that happening to me.

And isn't it dorking that they are clipless when in deed the clip into the pedal? or maybe it's that they click into them? And I can negotiate the one's on the GF's spinner bike, but I'm stationary. I fear for when I get on the road. And the ones I bought are different from those (and yours- you have the same kind.) It took me forever to figure out how to use toeclips. Ugh.

Come on SPRING!!!

G

BG - I'm curious about your shoes. They look like MTB's, but I'm not sure. Are they MTB's or hybrids? I love my road shoes, but jeez I feel like a dork when I walk in them! Even with my coffee shop caps! I've thought about going with MTB's for this reason.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
