Are you looking for the BariatricPal Store? Go now!

Has anyone taken up Bycyling?

Recommended Posts

Hey gang,

Just go back from Los Angeles - My apologies to anyone who loves LA - but I can't freaking (in deference to J's new endeavor) stand the place - never have been able to - never will.

I was very good with the food, but very, very, very, very, very bad with the alcohol... I've never been one to have a hang over no matter how much I drank. I figured this trip would be different, since I couldn't binge eat on Protein after a hard night of drinking, but I'm happy to report that I can still drink like a whale and not be hung over - go me!!!

BG - Good look on your interview today!! We'll all be pulling for ya!

I like the revisions that Alex has made to the site in the last week - looks like a more modern version of the old layout than completely different. Can't believe that we went from bycyling to bicyling... Geez-o-Pete.

Speaking of new suits (and congrats BG on the smaller sizes!) I had to buy a new suit before my trip - smallest size that I've worn since 1991. It will be the last suit I can buy at the fat man store (and if I hadn't been pressed for time, I would have gone shopping at normal stores).

My boxer will be having knee surgery on Wednesday - she had quit limping after a few weeks of bed rest, but she blew it back out the first time she went to play with her friends. She'll be on three months of bed rest, so no Easter Hill Country ride for me. Not happy, but I got to take care of my puppy.

Got my grades for the fall term - A & A-. Not happy with the A-, but whatever. Put me in a much better mood about school, though. Was wishing I was going to take classes this term, but in a few months, I'd be pissy about it too. Also with a recovering dog, I'm sure that I'll end up spending most evenings sitting with her, so the wife can do something besides sit with the dog.

ZZ - Sorry I didn't respond earlier - your pics are awesome - you are doing sooo good!

T - welcome - like BG said, any friend of J is a friend of mine.

HP - Hope that school is going well

TX - We still need to get together for a ride, but it might be a few weeks until the dog can start doing something besides bed rest. She's gonna be mighty cranky, and it's not fair to my wife to make her sit home with her all day seven days a week.

D - We miss you, and hope that you are doing well!

JC - Hope that your recovery is proceeding apace.

B

Is that an offer? On that note, what kind of 18s do you have that you aren't wearing anymore?

Yippy!

I'll be happy to try anything! I've never been able to take anyone's hand me downs since I was a little kid. I'm excited at the prospect, even if they don't work.

Giggle.

How are the jitters for the interview? You feeling good? Are you leaving from work or going home to clean up and change? Having a good hair day?

I brought everything with me since the interview is right down the street.

I am trying to stay positive and calm but in all honesty I want to fucking puke.

Hey Chica! I missed you, too. I checked in once or twice, but didn't have time to really pay attention to what was going on or write back to anyone. This is first time that a lot of folks I met with in LA have seen me in over a year. It was very nice to get some major compliments - including one woman I've known for 12ish years who had to ask someone else who I was - she didn't have any freaking idea at all.

There is a possibility that I may be relocating to Chicago within a few months - it's a ways from you & BG, but within a morning or afternoon drive. Will keep ya posted.

Go puke, you've got a band, call it a PB.

Not helpful I know.

You'll be fine, they'll be happy to have you. Deep breaths, big smiles, confidence...you're golden girl.

Chicago is my kind of town.

I'm there every few months and in August BG and I are doing the Muddy Buddy in there.

Hi all..thought I would drop in and say hi...I have NO time to do anything but housework and school work. We are in our phlebotomy and medication class and clinical II and ERH and professional development. This is the last semester before externships so I will be happy about that. I have definitely cleaned up my mouth too J!!! I have gone back to church and started loving Jesus and my life again. I hadn't been to church in 8 years!!!! So, that is my life and I am enjoying it now, just super busy and I am not exercising at all!!!!! So, I need to start that here when the snow melts!!! I HATE exercising in a gym.....it is the worst!!! Love ya all....someday I may get to come and visit with you all for a longer time than 5 minutes!!!!

Hope you all are having a great New Year and I will be keeping you all in my prayers!!! God Bless...Deanna

I'm with you! I don't like the gym either...I have such a hard time getting motivated. I'd much rather be outside. I need to set some goals. I've never really done that...I think because I don't want to fail. I like that ticker that mbsbike2002 has with the bicycling goals. Good idea.

I am so amazed at well all of you have done with your weight loss. You all are such and inspiration. Once you were banded, was it easy? How hard did you have to work on the diet/exercise part?

He is B, for Brandon.

Deanna is D.

Simple. You're offically T unless you want to release your real first name and we'll C you.

As for goal setting that's a favorite thing of mine to do...then I like to create insane plans with objectives and time lines to get them accomplished. It's really a little OCD, but I'm on target with school and weight loss so I dare anyone to call me a freak.

Okay call me a freak but I dare anyone to tell me I won't meet my goals, becuase I will.

The best thing I can tell you is be realistic about what you can do. I started walking 15 minutes in October 06. It's taken a long time but I can run 40 minutes now. That happens when you slowing but consistently challenge yourself. But you've been an exerciser, so you know the drill. The band is fantastic because it doesn't allow you to stray too far from your goals.

XO

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
