Has anyone taken up Bycyling?

When I was researching the sugar addiction I came across a lot of vegetarian info, like the health benefits and what not. I figured it would be a good way to incorporate more fruits, veggies, Beans, etc into my diet. So I printed up some recipes and went with it. Since I am not having the sugar and processed foods it has been pretty healthy. It's been almsot a week and I feel really good. I have lost about 5 pounds since last Thursday. I have a ton of fruits and veggies in the fridge. I am still feeding the rest of the family meat and I am still eating eggs and dairy. I don't know if this is something that is going to last forever but if I continue to feel this good it just might.

You should totally check out the book "Skinny Bitch" - Ever since picking that up I've been re-thinking the whole flesh consumption thing...

BG - The windchill here in Big D is 13, so we're not that far behind ya... Of course, it's supposed to be in the 70s here over the weekend :D.

I'll be interested to hear how the veg thing goes for you guys. I think there's some value in changing diet over time. My wife did the veg thing for about 4-5 years, but started feeling a little sluggish. She started eating meat again about a year ago and has felt better. On the other hand, she felt better when she stopped eating meat, so maybe the body just needs some change. I think, in the end, the best is to eat natural, minimally processed foods. The difference in meat taste between the regular supermarket and Whole Foods is incredible. I can't eat regular meat that's not from WF anymore (of course, to be honest, I can't eat much meat right now anyway...)

My poor little Grumpy boxer ripped the ligament that holds her knee together on New Year's day. She's hobbling around in excruciating pain. We go see the surgeon tomorrow - hopefully, we can get her into surgery in the next few days. At least the surgeon will give us some good narcotics for her to control the pain. :woot:

I'm high fructose corn Syrup (HFCS) free by the way. One day. No crackers, no commerical french dressing, no yummy hazelnut Creamer in my coffee... I actually ate fewer than 900 calories yesterday. Hot Damn.

HFCS is in everything and avoiding it has been a challenge. I'm a lable reader anyway, but this a new one to look out for.

I'm shooting for a solid week of going without it. I need to get to Whole Foods! B, how do you survive not eating? I mean I know you're getting your nutrition, but I couldn't be that tight...I don't know how you do it...

Oh, and I'm co-hosting a dinner party on Saturday with my cycling mentor. We discovered we are both Hungarian so we are having a Hungarian themed dinner for other women we bike with. Fun, no? There's going to be some granulated sugar happening, but I think I should be able to deal with it.

I'm very excited for the prospect. :D

J - It kinda sucks not being able to eat. The weightloss is great, but... I do make sure to get enough calories in a day and to get enough exercise - don't want my metabolism to end up fubar. Once I get to (or near) goal, I would like to get a complete unfill, so that I can learn how to eat the proper amount of food.< /p>

The Hungarian-theme dinner sounds great for the bike chicas. It's strange - even before LB, real, raw sugar didn't affect me nearly as much as HFCS or even white table sugar. I think the processing we do to foods really messes up how our bodies use and store them.

I know that HFCS doesn't hit our full indicator like real granulated sugar does. I also know it makes some kids really grouchy. Hence wanting it out of my house.

Giving up Jif Peanut Butter will be the biggest challenge for me. I love that stuff.

Whole Foods is really mecca. I love their cheeses....and fish.

Are they in Detroit? BG, how far are you from one???

There are several variants of Jif - the one we get at costco (since thrown in the trash) didn't have corn Syrup - just sugar. I love the stuff, it goes down too easily, and next thing ya know, I've had 3,000 calories of PB, without PBing...

I did find some Jif "hockey pucks" that have 400 calories of Peanut Butter in them. I'm going to get them for longer bike rides. Almost the perfect ratio of fat, Protein, and carbs. At the end of the ride, I'll throw away whatever is left in the puck, so there won't be an open container of PB around...

Juli get the Simply Jif. It pretty much tastes the same. I have moved onto the natural stuff with no sugar which I am getting used to slowly.

There is one in Ann Arbor which would be about a 25 minute drive. Maybe I will take a looksie this weekend.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
