It is a small world, indeed!!! I think I know the area you where you live - I used to go that way to arlington when I went to UTA - drove through there a few years ago when i moved back to Texas and was in for a shock - sleeply little Precinct / Randoll Mill had turned into big roads (no more driving through the country at 100mph :o )...

I live in Lavon, now. It's at the north east corner of lake ray hubbard and south east corner of lake lavon. Our land is adjacent to the Corps of Engineers land around lake ray hubbard, which is nice. I'm in Hurst quite a bit to see my parents and grandparents (they live about half-way between you and the surgical center off precinct). We're starting to look into moving back to Boston soon, though. I just need to find a job that pays well enough to cover increased cost of living and Mass state income tax.

Did you grow up in the area? I went to Ft. Worth Christian and graduated in 1986.

Hey Gang - I'm off to ride the real bike on the road!!! Haven't been able to ride since a few weeks before surgery! I'm so excited! Will report back in this afternoon - I'm 40 pounds lighter than the last time I rode.

How funny! Yes, you have it right...right down the street is where everyone used to hang out behind Bell Helicopter on Friday and Saturday nights and drag race. Do you remember that? Of course now there are NO PARKING signs every ten feet. Yes, I grew up here. I graduated from L.D. Bell in 85. Now my youngest is going there...am I THAT OLD?!?!? LOL

That's a nice area where you are now. Why in the WORLD would you ever want to leave TEXAS?!?!? We are retired Navy...we lived all over the friggin' country and couldn't get back here fast enough! I do love the climate in Boston, though, for sure.

We are thinking about moving out to Possum Kingdom Lake. With our jobs we can live anywhere, so it will be up to the kiddos, really. (At least for a FEW more years...then we are gone regardless! LOL)

Enjoy your "real" bike ride today! I think I'll do the same! I ride at River Legacy Park...right on that back way to Arlington you used to take!

Hi my biker buddies.

I've got tons of homework to do today. I will however make it to the gym today. No biking. It's too cool and I don't have the right gear.

I was happy not to have to put my bike on the car for the drive to MI.

XO you all.

Stefanie,

I do remember cruising back behind the bell plant. I also used to go that way to Arlington, but I got the heeby-jeebies about driving down Greenbelt at night. All those rumors of the cults hanging out in the river bottoms.... Damn, we were gullible... I still don't like driving through there at night, though :).

I know some people from Bell at that time, I wish I would have graduated from there - but our part of Hurst was in Birdville, and I had no desire to go to Richland... I'll send you a PM with some names that i remember, so we can see how many degrees of Kevin Bacon there are between us.

As for leaving Texas, it's hard. I met my wife in college in Boston, and we're both going to school there now. We can do some of the lectures via video, but we'll have to commute some to finish our degrees. It would be more fun, and we'd have more courses to choose from, if we lived there. I also miss seasons. We have "Summer" and "Not-summer". I'd like to have some fall and maybe even a little winter. I've moved away quite a few times before, and I imagine that we'll move back to Texas again, but for now, Boston is where we need to be. We probably won't be leaving for a while, though. There's the whole job thing, and the need to sell the house.

PK is beautiful. If we lived in, or west of, Tarrant county, it'd be much harder to leave. We drove out to Abiline a couple of times last year to get a car (the last diesel in Texas of what we wanted was there), and as soon as you cross into Parker county, it's like a whole 'nother country (as the specialty license plates say).

If you're up for it some weekend, we can meet at the park for a ride.

My ride today we great - 7.37 miles at about 11mph - not gonna win any races with that, but it's been about two and a half months since I last rode. Could have gone longer, but my ass was sore. That 40 pounds makes a huge difference. I haven't lost much strength in my legs. A few hills that used to require the granny gears seemed like small bumps in the path. There were too many people at the park to get much momentum, so I couldn't go very fast. I'll probably ride at the park again tomorrow & then start riding out on the county roads by the house.

One non-scale victory today as well - i had ordered a Borah jersey earlier in the summer, and it arrived while i was off-bike. I tried it on once and it was too small to wear, but it fit well today - maybe even a little loose. Go Me!!!

D - it's a deal, would be happy to cut you in on the millions from self-completing homework. I just need to get all of my goddamned homework finished so I can start working tha idea :)

J - Hope you have a good workout at the Gym.

Hope everybody else is having a great day!

B, I'd love to have that self compeleting homework write my paper on Classical Era Mangement Theorists that's due tomorrow and was assigned last week. I'm just getting started.

I'll do well, but this is cutting it close for me. Ugh.

The workout was fantastic by the way. Getting good and sweaty is always a good time.

B - HA! I forgot about that cult stuff...you're right! Maybe that's why I get the same heeby-jeebies out there at night! We WERE gullible, huh? But is has stuck with us all this time because it IS creepy out there in the river bottoms. And the last time I went down there at night, I ran across a couple of bobcats, and there are always big 'ole wild pigs running around, even close to the housing divisions. They are getting braver and braver! You bet on the ride...just let me know!

EVERYONE - Hey, I know this is a lofty goal, but my BIL just challenged me an hour ago to the Hotter N Hell 100 for 2008. He knows I don't challenge well and would accept! LOL I'm way too competitive...I will agree to it and kill myself to get to the finish line just to prove to myself that I can do it! Now I'm really intrigued....does anyone here have any personal knowledge of the ride? The website has great info, but I was just wondering if anyone here is cycling that hard. I think I could do 60 miles without much problem, but I'm worried about hitting the wall after that. Any training ideas would be most appreciated!

Yeah BG, it does look sweet, huh? I really need to figure out what my body needs as far as hydration and nutrition for something like that, though, or I will bomb. I also need to get a full road bike and not use my hybrid. Being in Texas, it is certainly named appropriately to be held in August! It's a good thing we are cooling off now for me to start training for it. My sis is gearing up for a half marathon in January right now, so she will cheer me on...she cycles, as well as runs. (She had gastric bypass in 2005.) I guess they will fly out for him to ride in the endurance ride with me. (They live in SC.) My BIL's Dad wants to do it now, too! We'll see how it goes!

Those preserves sound scrumptious! I'll have to look for something like that here!

TX

All I can say is get a camel back Water system. Much different than an camel toe. And start training. I did my first 50+ mile ride after 3 months of riding seriously. If I had a few more months of warmer weather I'd had been able to do 100. So with 9 months I predict you can kick your BIL's ass. I weighed lots more than you do now too. So go girl. We'll cheer you on!

BG-

If you ever find yourself in Columbus, CALL ME. We'll get together. I'm in your state as I type. :) I finished my paper and we are off to go to a movie and get dinner out. YIPPIE. A normal Saturday night date!!!

Wow, that is very encouraging, indeed! You're my hero, Ferris Bueller! I have a camel back...definitely more comfortable than a camel toe! What kind of shorts do you wear? The ones with the gel pads? And helmet? Any other clothing recommendations? And what kind of bike do you ride? What did you take with you on that big ride...as far as food, water, Powerade, anything else? How did you prepare in the days before the ride?

Oh, too many questions, I know.

TX - as luck would have it, I rode the HHH back in the early '90s. I was young and in shape, and the girl I was dating at the time talked me into it. It is my goal, if we're still in texas, to do it in 2008 - My whopping 7.7 mile ride today not-withstanding. This year would have been great to do it - mid 80's in late august...

Will have to get back to schedule a ride - next few weekends are booked with a trip to the zoo, a trip to boston, and a trip to DC. How does the weekend before Thanksgiving look?

J - glad you got your paper done and that the workout was good! Hope you enjoy your Saturday night date!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
