Yeah, I almost wanted to join them just for the name.

There are Bike MS events all over the country, though. So maybe there is one in your area!

Well, the weather was great, so I decided to go for a ride and my DH wanted to go with me. We are usually on very different schedules and this doesn't happen too often, so it was a special treat to get to enjoy a great ride and the great views!

The roads out by our house are hilly, but doable and we have great views of the Cascade Mountains, it was amazing! My guess is we did about 12 miles, my longest ride to date and I was loving it! I love going fast down the hills. We both agreed it was definitely more fun to ride the hills then to run the hills.

I am also training for a tri, coming up in July, so I did my first brick today. It was short, only had to run for 5 minutes, but man, could I feel it! LOL, I don't think it was really running, more like a slow jog :scared2:

The winds are terrible right now. I don't know what gives?!

BG, look for a ride around 6/6/09. I'll be up there and we're going to do some mt. biking that weekend too, to get ready for the Muddy Buddy Part II.

I'd love to ride with you. Nothing huge, less than 40.

Traci, Thanks for the compliment. I just got my degree this weekend, that was Zoe hugging the stuffing out of me.

100 Grand Ride

That would be about the best I can do. 2.5 hour drive for me

Just got back from my group ride. I'm too fast for the B group but too slow for the A group. I think I'm going to start a B+ group!

hello everyone....

well, I hit my 2 year mark this past sunday and also celebrated my daughter graduating High school. I am not at my goal weight yet, but within reach....about 35 more pounds to go...the last seem to just creep off.

we have been doing allot of training rides with our friends from the local town.....great times, if you like hills than this is your kind of ride.

There is a ride this weekend called the B&O tour in Brownsburg, In It uses the trails from the old railroad, and it spans 62 or 65 miles from one county to several others.

Should be a nice day

Anyway.....just wanted to pop in and say hello....

hope everyone is doing good....and be safe

I like to ride long distances such as 50+ miles. I haven't ridden this distance since my surgery. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to maintain energy without having to eat Bagels, powerbars, etc. I have a hard time with breads and I've never really enjoyed eating sawdust! Thanks for the input!

Hi Maw,

I'm a fan of the Cliff Blocks. They are little gel blocks with sugar and sometimes caffiene. Also, I make sure to have either a Protein Drink or oatmeal before I set out.

50 miles I can do without eating on the ride, more than that I need to stop and eat be it a chicken sandwich or burger minus the bun or something. I tend to ride with people to restaurants, then turn around, or on organized rides where there's a lunch stop.

Hope that helps.

J

BTW.

Babygirl and I bested our Muddy Buddy time by 13+ minutes from last year.

Was it the new course? Was it our super strength and agility? Who cares! We did it faster!

I guess everyone is being busy with biking this summer and not have time to chat here like they did last summer. Been wet and cool up here in CT. and have not had much chance to ride. Hope to get back this week if it stops raining.

Time for an update sorry I have been MIA for so long. Life has been moving at light speed. The weight loss is going well, I am down about 96lbs, but not with out complications. Memorial Day weekend my son and I were riding and long story short, his rear wheel rubbed my front wheel and down I went. One shattered right elbow, a surgery to install two pins and a number of physical therapy sessions later. I am ready for the bike again. If that was not enough I started having stomach pains during all of that, Dr ordered an ultrasound and turns out I had gallstones. So two weeks ago I went in to have the gallbladder taken out. Dr. (same on that banded me) decides to he also wants to scope my stomach and check on the band while I’m under. Good thing he did as my band had started to slip, he re-positioned the band and I am basically starting over on the fills. Now I can eat just about anything and have no restriction. If there is an upside to what we thought were gallbladder problems. It is I was not able to eat much other than smoothies. During the months of inactivity I continued to loose weight. Had I been on my regular diet I most certainly would have packed on additional weight. Pre bike wreck I was riding 50+ miles a week, swimming 1.5 miles 6 days a week and running 9 miles a week.

Now I am starting from a 0 base, but glad to be able to be active again. Also found a great website for food tracking. MyPlate - Food Diary & Food Calorie Counter | LIVESTRONG.COM

Well that is about it, hope every one is doing well.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
