boosh10 98 Posted December 9, 2014 Hello, I started my whole process in August and chest xr, blood work and ekg were only part of my pre op testing. I see everyone on here going for ultrasounds, cat scans, sleep apnea studies. I'm starting to feel worried that I didn't have to do all that. I'll bring it up to my Dr's attention on next visit, but should I be concerned. I mean...what if he goes in for surgery and I have a problem we didn't know about. Now...I'm scared! imsoglad56 402 Posted December 9, 2014 I didn't even have a chest X-ray, just ekg and blood work.
BeagleLover 1,020 Posted December 9, 2014 It could be that folks that have a BMI between 35 & 40 have to have documented evidence of co-morbidities in order to get approved for insurance payment. If your BMI is over 40, you don't have to do that.

joatsaint 2,814 Posted December 9, 2014 Yep, co-morbidities are required by some insurance companies before they will cover surgery. I'm not diabetic or have high blood pressure... so sleep Apnea was the co-morbidity that qualified me for insurance approval.
Elode 8,093 Posted December 9, 2014 I didn't have any of that extra testing done. Just labs. I am "healthy" though, besides being overweight so it wasn't necessary. It may not be necessary for you to go through all that either.
Wendyfm 494 Posted December 9, 2014 (edited) I didn't even have an EKG, because I had had one in the past two years, did have an Endoscopy and a colonoscopy ,found an ulcer and polyps. Also had testing for sleep Apnea done, which I have. I think testing is different for different doctors. Plus my BmI was almost 50 to start.
