The hair thing is really a blind crapshoot. I did not lose any, while some folks suffer miserably. Just prepare for it and hope for the best.

I just got my hair done yesterday and noticed how much hair I have loss. :( My hair is already thin and fragile. Any type of stress or body changes always affects my hair. I am going to start taking supplements. I am actually mad with myself for not doing it sooner.

From what I've read the hair that you lose will eventually grow back. Is this accurate? Also, any supplements that are commonly taken to help prevent it?

I did speak to my nurse and she said she hadn't personally met anybody who had lost significant amounts of hair, some thinning but nothing crazy. I do know a woman who after bypass had lost majority of her hair, it's since grown back but took what seems to be an eternity. It's a risk though. I'm just over a week out, so I'm not sure what the future will hold!

I am 3 months out as of today and Ive had some hair fall out here and there during brushing and washing (A little more then normal) but I'm not bald or anything crazy. My hair is a bit thinner when put in a hair tie I have noticed that, But it's always been thin, Since I was diagnosed with PCOS and started shedding before surgery I can't blame it all on the surgery alone. But since the begging of September I've been getting in 65g of Protein and taking 20,000mg of Biotin, It might have helped.

I've been losing a fair amount starting at about a month out. I hope it slows down and stops soon.

My husband said the other day to someone that I must be part Labrador - I shed like crazy but it doesn't make any difference. (We had a black lab for 15+ years and she shed so much...but had a healthy thick coat). I found out he notices all of the hair in the waste basket.

He says he can't see any difference, but I know how much thinner my hair is.

I have not lost any hair, but my hair has dried out quite a bit and is breaking at the ends. I had to have an inch cut off yesterday just to deal with the broken ends :( Don't get me wrong, I'm happy I haven't lost any yet!

I am two weeks out and of course, nothing yet, but fingers crossed. I'm taking hair skin and nail Vitamins (biotin) every day plus getting 65 g of Protein each day and I'm also using Biotin and collagen enhanced Shampoo and conditioner. Here's hoping!!! My hair is pretty thick and curly so I am prayerful that even if I lose a little bit, it won't be terribly noticeable! Good luck ladies!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
