I am scheduled for an EGD Tuesday and surgery Friday. The closer it gets the more nervous I get. I'm excited but scared. Does anyone have any tips or advice to offer?

Everything will go great! My EGD was a breeze. I have not had my surgery yet I get that next monday! I am unbelievably nervous but I know I will come out stronger then ever. I start today with my pre op diet. I am being very strict with this so that my liver shrinks to the size it needs to be. I am very excited and hope all goes well for you on Tuesday and Friday. Good luck!

I wouldn't worry unless you have a history of GI problems. I was under anesthesia and completely asleep. Then next thing I know, I was being awaken, thinking 'wow, that was quick.' Turns out, I started coughing during the procedure (which makes sense to me) and wouldn't stop so they couldn't complete it. I don't remember coughing so I'm sure I was completely out. They said it's very rare that that happens, but they ended up doing a barium esophagram in place of it. Not even a smidge of reflux was detected. I had my gallbladder removed laparoscopically years ago and had a breathing tube placed with no problems. I hope I don't have any issues with that this time as well.

I'm sure you'll be fine.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
