joatsaint 2,814 Posted December 8, 2014 I've notice that my head hunger is greatest when I'm tired. I guess my brain knows that eating will give me a temporary energy boost. Having learned that, instead of reaching for the carbs (like I used to do) I eat Protein and then, if I'm still craving carbs, I'll eat something low-carb but sweet. I realize you're only 5 days post-op, but you might try eating some sugar free Popsicles, or SF Jell-O or a favorite Protein Shake. My diet allowed both during my 1st week post-op. Beni 1,484 Posted December 8, 2014 Dristract, distract and distract yourself some more. We used food for comfort and the full feeling to relax us. Can't do it anymore. This means you have to find a replacement. I have tried everything simply because I don't know what will work and I'm still in the process of figuring it out. It goes all the way from knitting (which have not done in 20 years) to organizing drawers. Lots of window shopping and I have gone to tons of support group meetings. Anything to avoid being around food. I am not really hungry but my head does want to taste so favorite things. My son made a batch of brownies yesterday and boy did I want to have some. I had a crumbly chunk and went out shopping right away. Imagine that taken out by a brownie.
Kindle 8,667 Posted December 8, 2014 (edited) Distraction was key for me, too. My house is cleaner than it's ever been. My office is organized. My barn has a new coat of paint. My horse and I put on well over 200 mile this summer. The landscaping in my front yard is all changed. My Christmas cards are done. As I was dropping sizes I spent a lot of time at thrift stores. Once it warms up again in the spring my garage will get the same treatment as my office. But I can already tell that winter will be harder because I had so many outdoor distractions. I'm trying really hard not to cross over to an online shopping addiction! One other thing I do when I want to eat and it's just head hunger.... I fill a 32oz bottle with Water and don't eat until it's gone. It usually takes so long I'm over the craving by the time I'm done. And if not, it's time to eat by then anyways and i got lots of Fluid. Edited December 8, 2014 by Kindle
