HI, My name is Julie. I was just banded last wednesday May 16th 07. Im feeling pretty good , but a bit discouraged. I'm really not liking the no eating thing and I got on the scale today and gained a pound. HOW DOES THAT HAPPEN???Im drinking sugar free juice , tea, chicken broth and Ive ahd a couple pop cycles. Is it normal to feel some pressure in your stomach at first. I dont usually feel hungry sense the surgery, but I feel like I have drank to much, kind of uncomfortable. is that normal?? I went to Dr Ortez in Mexico. It was a great experience and everything went well . Everyone there was really nice and his team seams to do ALOT of lap bands. I would feel alot better if the scale wasnt going up. that is so like my body though.Any advice? thanks julie

Hi Julie, my name is Midge and I got my band May 10, 2007. I'm having the same "pressure" feeling--they said my stomach is very high--I thought maybe it was because of that, but I think I'm having trouble with trapped gas! My doctor told me not to weigh because right after surgery just about everybody gains because of IV Fluid and the bodies reaction to the surgery! A friend of mine gained 12 lbs the first week!

Thanks Midge.

Im so happy to hear its normal. WOW , I feel a bunch better. I would be freaking out if I had gained 12 lbs. so when are we suppose to weigh? and how are you doing besides the pressure? did your doctor say it will go away? julie

The pressure goes away. I got mine under control with walking, heating pad, and liquid Tylenol. And then one day I noticed it was gone....

Yeah, don't bother weighing right now. Your scale could say ANYTHING! Just follow the plan and have faith.

Hi Julie,

Congrats....on your surgery.....I wouldn't be worried about the weighing , right now...you are still swollen from the surgery ....it takes a few weeks for the swelling to go down....just stick to the liquids and you will be fine...the first month is just for healing...don't worry about weight loss during this time...

Hi Julie--I'm doing really good I think! Does anybody know if you can take something for gas or should I just contact the doc? Are any of you on Protein Drinks?

Hi Midge

I just got my LB on Friday, the 18th. I am drinking the Isopure Protein Water. I don't feel hungry, I miss the "eating" but I'm not that hundgry. I used some Gas-x strips, I had a pain that I thought cold be gas??? It seemed to do the trick.

The gas pain is the worst in the first 2 weeks then all of sudden it disappears. I took quite a mixture of pain killers in the first few days but found that nothing really works. I found it was much worse when I was sitting down but once I found a good lying down position, it eased up a lot. Don't worry too much about it. This is the start of it all and in 2 weeks time it will be a distant memory. Well done on getting the band and welcome to the LBT.

Leave the scales alone. take them round to a mates so you won't be tempted to use it everyday. Just relax and let you body recover.

Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
