10 week post op stall

Recommended Posts

Anyone experience a 10 week post op stall? I am on a stall now for 9 days. I do a bootcamp 2 days a week and have not changed a thing on my diet. Im very careful about what i eat. Just want to know if this is normal. 9 days seems long to not have lost. Should i go back to my liquid diet for a while?

I just went through one at 9 weeks. I had just begun a more aggressive cardio workout and suddenly found myself not losing for several weeks. I am very strict about my diet. After reaching out to my fabulous partners here on Bariatric Pal, they told me that my body was actually in starvation mode as I was not getting enough calories. I was only eating about 500 per day and working out 1 hour per day. I worked to add another 150 calories to my diet and honestly a little additional fat and my stall broke. I lost 2 lbs in a matter of 3 days and have been going strong since. I also got myself a Fitbit so that I have a better understanding of my actual activity burn along with exercise. I found I was actually burning most of what I was taking in. I track my diet and exercise on fitness pal and the Fitbit communicates with that tool. Now of course I hurt my rotator cuff exercising (I have psoriatic arthritis) and am down for the count. Hoping it down set me back too far.

Good luck on your stall. I know it is really frustrating!

Thank you. I do fitness pal everyday so i know my Protein, fat, calorie and carb intakes. I try not to go over 800 a day as my nutritionist said, but when i work out i add a tad extra in an extra Protein Shake. 9 days seems extreme for a stall- but thank you. I will try to modify my calories when i lose extra calories. Going to the gym today????! I am not the person who expects the weight off instantly, but i usually went 5 days- no loss, then boom- 3-5 lost. I was just getting worried at the 9 day stretch.

Good luck, see if it helps. From everything I have read and heard it makes sense.

Quit weighing yourself daily! lol

Seriously though, I only weigh myself about once a month or so. This way I don't stress out if I don't lose anything in a few days. I think everyone has stalls.

I started working out about 5 days a week and had to increase my calories a bit - I eat about 700-900 and Protein to about 110 grams a day on workout days. This has really helped

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
