I am just a mess- and the insurance company makes me feel like a nobody

Recommended Posts

My case got submitted to insurance late due to the doctor's office dropping the ball. Anyhow it was submitted on Thursday so I called and check on it on Friday. I was told by my case manager nurse that there are a lot more important cases and urgent cases them mine and I am just going to have to wait - BCBS Empire in Florida. I tried to tell them that my surgery is penciled in for Dec 16th but I need my surgery approval number to schedule my last two appts with surgery nurses and to sign my final papers. :( My nurse says she can't schedule them without that approval. Just in case they had me start the clear liquid diet last Monday but I have hit a standstill in losing weight with it. I have been walking 5 miles a day everyday. I completed the 6 months nutrition classes and all the appts necessary. I am just bummed and a nervous wreck, I don't know what to do anymore.

It is easy and absolutely understandable that you are frustrated. I would be a reck myself but when I am in a situation like that, I try to remind myself that my goal is above all the fallout and the details. I stick to the plan and keep going. If it doesn't happen today, I work on the next day and so forth. This will happen and that's all that matters.

I understand how you feel. My insurance company denied the first time. Then they wouldn't approve the gastric sleeve. Finally I was approved, but only for the bypass. They don't care how long you wait. Or what your doctors reccomend. But it will finally happen and you will feel so much better. So hang in there. Call them 5 times a day if you have to.

I too had problems with my insurance company. I put blinders on and just forged ahead. I am now 19 months post-op.

No i think they gave some kind of date when they submitted it to insurance but they did not tell me. I know they said i had to have approval back before the 18th or i could not have it this year.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
