I'm So Depressed! Weight Loss is So Slow!

Recommended Posts

I'm six weeks post op and have only lost 17 lb post op. I'm 63 and had a low BMI. I'm going to the gym and getting about 70 grams of Protein and get in all my Water. Advice?

That doesn't sound low to me. Especially if you had a low BMI at surgery. That's an average of about 3 pounds a week! Stay positive and think long term. It looks to me like you're on track for success.

You don't give any stats about your weight/height, your BMI, or the type of surgery you had. But when's the last time you lost 17 pounds in 6 weeks? I'd say you are doing fine.

One thing for sure - time goes along either way, and as long as you continue to lose, you are going in the right direction. I sincerely wanted to wake up several pounds lighter every day, lol. It didn't work out like that for me, yet two years later, here I am, 140 pounds lighter. I know it's easy to get caught up in it because right after surgery, our world revolves around our weight, and we worry the surgery wont work for us, we fear failure, etc. I always felt like I could handle the "slow" loss if only I had a crystal ball and would know that I would eventually get there. I didn't realize I didn't need the crystal ball, I just needed to follow the program, and I would be fine. You will be too :)

You've lost more than 1/3 of your excess weight at only 6 weeks out - that's amazing!

I'm 5 1/2 weeks and have lost about 20lbs- since surgery. I haven't budged in the last week. My bmi was 40.

I wouldn't worry too much. It's all a process. My food choices have changed and I've gone back to work. Just remember your body has to used to all of the changes it is going through.

You are doing great. In fact, doing even better than me since you have 1/2 as much to lose as I did. Took me 7 weeks to lose 17 pounds. Then I gained 3 pounds and stalled for a month. All of which is totally normal and didn't stop me from reaching, even passing, my goal. Relax, enjoy your NSV's and count your blessings....Slower weight loss is much healthier. Remember you didn't gain it all in a couple months, you won't lose it that fast, either.

I think you're doing fantastic! Try using clothing to measure your success instead of the scale.

I am 5.5 weeks out and have lost 16 lbs since surgery. I too started at a low BMI. But I also lost 10 lbs the two weeks prior on the low carb diet. Of course I would love to be lower but I am over half way to my goal and I know it's going to be slower the closer I get. I am doing cardio and yoga 6 days a week as the doctor hasn't cleared me for weights yet. If you ever want to email or chat since we're so close on dates let me know.

I also know that around 3 weeks I only lost 1 lbs that week so I was pretty bummed but I came on here and read about the 3 week stall and it made me feel sooooo much better.

Happy Holiday you got this!!

I am almost 7 months post-op. I have not had a single month where I lost more than 10 pounds in a month. In Nov. I lost 5 pounds. I do not want to say "only" 5 pounds. I would have given anything to consistently lose 5-10 pounds a month in the past. Now that, that is happening, why be depressed? You are doing great! Even after the "slow weight loss", I am 92 pounds less than my highest weight! That Includes pre-surgery loss; I was 238 at surgery, 173 today. That's 65 pounds in less than 7 months! Be Happy!

Remember, slow and steady still gets to the end! :)

I'm one week out today. I'm not having too much trouble with the Protein. I was shocked to be down 10 lbs today. I find the savory chicken Soup powder Protein mixed with warm Water goes down well and is thin.

Today I did too much. I did some light holiday decorating then had a nap. Hen I ought I'd go to the store to get two items. I was so pooped I left the store without finishing and came home for a nap.

I am 11 weeks post op and have not lost any weight in three weeks. However body weight is shifting and people are noticing. I joined a "remedial" Zumba class and have been on treadmill the last week and a half.. It is getting easier. I have been eating some crap and realizing it ... A NSV for sure... Throwing out bad/unhealthy food more often. Making better choices... That is what this stall is doing to me... So much better than how I would have dealt with this before. Keep up your good work!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
