Like I said Jess you've done awesome, Im inspired by how well you've done truly. I just wanted to know more about how you enjoyed and handled the Matrix. I know that at different stages we can use different Protein types, for immediately after surgery I was simply going by , as you say, my doctors and my nutritionist guidelines of no sugar or carbs for awhile and then only after Proteins, which makes sense.

They make me sooo sick too! It doesn't matter which brand. The powders are the worst for me. My Dr told me that I can drink milk, thank God. Are you at the point where you can eat high Protein foods? Can you purée the hell out of some cooked Beans and add broth? I'm sorry that this is happening to you. Don't feel like you're weird or the "only one" this happens to because I'm right there with ya girlfriend????

@@scootie, since you can eat dairy, I suggest you get a lot of Protein from FAGE plain Greek yogurt + whatever you want to add to it. I was surprised about how much Protein was in it.

It depends on the doctor; I would ask. I was told I could eat anything I could tolerate after a week. I never did purees, just chewed very well (same thing).

At what stage can I have yogurt??

If you are on full liquids you can have it. If it feels too thick blend it into a shake by thinning it down with no fat or low fat milk. You can add a tiny bit of fruit or low sugar flavorings. I was able to have it immediately. Check with your nutritionist to make sure it's okay.

I just want to add that whey isolate powders may be superior for Protein but you have to listen to your body. I lived in a haze of nausea and vomiting until they finally agreed I was allergic to the whey itself. I've had to settle on a veggie protein that is slightly higher in carbs and sugar. I do fantastic now! At 9 weeks today I'm finally feeling good. It's such a trial and error process.

I will say I am glad to have tried so many flavors and brands of powders before my surgery, I know what I tolerate, what I hate and what I really really like. I will give one little guideline, chocolate, vanilla strawberry etc don't mix them with Water, use skim or 1$ if youre allowed, fruit flavors like the Syntrax Nectars fuzzy navel, Twisted cherry or pink grapefruit etc are great with Water and an ice cube or two in a blender to keep them cold, very nice especially in the mornings. Fior those of you with a taste issue or an allergy issue, if you know its not the whey your allergic to i.e. dairy. then I suggest you look up abouttime products yes its one word. they have these ready to mix plastic bottles that you pop the top. fill shake and go, they call them, fill shake and go..also available in packets. But they only have 4 things in the whole product whey Protein isolate ( actually its microfiltered for smoothness, soy lecithin, some natural flvors, and stevia. as a result the flavors are extremely mild, tasting. you can see the video taste taste tests on my early blog pages on my blog below.

So I have not been drinking my Protein but I have been eating a lot of Protein in was thinking about getting the prefixed protein maybe it will taste better??

As long as you are getting in 60 grams of protein you should be fine. I like having a few of the premade ones as an on the go safeguard. If I wake up late and need something before the gym or if I'm going shopping with friends I feel better grabbing one of the premixed drinks so I'm not going without or making a bad choice on the run.

I couldn't agree more. You need to to taste and see what you like, and what you can tolerate. Don't let your doctor's office sell you something you can't ingest. I'd love to try the fruit flavors, but they have stevia and food dyes. The allergy struggle makes things much more challenging. The other thing I'd recommend is investing in a magic bullet, ninja bullet, or some type of smoothie blender. If I want fruit flavors I will freeze 100% fruit juice in ice trays and mix the the liquid Protein with a little water. I can't get as many flavor combinations, but it adds a little variety to the vanilla/chocolate mix.

Good luck

It's not "free" someone always pays. In many cases your insurance. And the scar cream is highway robbery.

Then we all pay by having higher healthcare costs as the years go on

It's not free. They are billing your insurance. Any of us can call our insurance company and ask if they cover nutrition shakes and supplements. If they say yes, your doctor then writes them out as prescriptions. I had a few people in my support group who got their Vitamins & supplements covered that way.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
