Kaiser Inland Empire

Recommended Posts

Hello, has anyone had their surgery with Kaiser in the Inland Empire? If so, can you tell me what steps you took to get approved by Kaiser? Who your pcp was? I'm switching to Kaiser January 1st and want to make sure I find a new primary care physician who is pro weight loss surgery, and want to make sure I do all I can to get approved. Thank you!!

I have kaiser inland empire. . Your pcp will give you a referral to the health education department. . From there you'll do an orientation telling you about all your options and requirements you can choose from and have to meet. If you meet the requirements you make an appt with another doctor and then if they think you should have the surgery they will refer you to the 12 week options class to start your journey.. hopefully this helps. I just finished my 12 weeks at the beginning of January and I'm 3 appts aways from meeting with the surg.

Thanks for responding! I called the health education department earlier this week to see if I could go ahead and schedule my appointment now with the weight management/preventative medicine doctor and was told I could schedule it now. I told her I was interested in weight loss surgery and she said I can go straight to meeting with the doctor who will qualify me for surgery and from there I will go to orientation and then the options classes :) So I guess I get to skip some steps which is awesome! I meet with Dr Mohamed Ismael on the 30th in Corona :)

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
