AJP1243 46 Posted December 6, 2014 My doctor said he was going to do an open sleeve surgery, but when I got approved from my insurance it said approved for lyposcopic. Does this mean he changed his mind or did they just say this to the insurance and just going to go through with the open. I would call but it is the weekend and just want opinions if someone else had this happen as well. Thanks in advance!
inwiththenew 14 Posted December 6, 2014 Could mean he is going to attempt laproscopic surgery but your consent will say possible open. If he has to go open he has the consent to do so
AJP1243 46 Posted December 6, 2014 Oh i hope he tries. The thought of him doing open scares me. Though I hope that as a Dr. He would want to do the safest method possible. I am not a a dr. So i do not know which way is safest. I trust him though. I just, not to be vain, don't want all the sagging skin and a giant long scar as well. Thank you for the help! samuelsmom 670 Posted December 6, 2014 It is extremely rare that open is safer than laparascopic. In fact, it is the standard of practice to perform this surgery as a laparascopic procedure with the understanding that in rare circumstances, the surgeon may have to perform it as an open procedure. Please ask your surgeon exactly what he meant when you call on Monday- or you can send an email which might be easier. Good Luck!
MrsMike1 34 Posted December 6, 2014 I would hope and pray he goes laparoscopic. Its safer and yields a faster recovery time.
