I'm only allowed 1/4 C of food per meal, how about you?

Recommended Posts

I'm 6 weeks out. I have no problem swallowing, I can easily eat 1/2 C of food and probably 1 C but I stop myself. Went to the doctor today and she told me most people have trouble even getting 1/4 C down. I'm just curious what other programs promote. I realize I need to follow my doctor's instructions. What makes it worse is that in 6 weeks I've only lost 20 pounds....

I am 3 weeks post op and my nutritionist allows up to 1/2 cup per meal. However, I can barely get 1/4 cup down in a sitting which requires me to eat 6 times a day. I am still having a hard time eating more than 4 times a day, but I try everyday to get more meals and more Protein in than the day before .

I think I went to 1/2 cup at 3 weeks. However, I am supposed to take 1 marble sized bite per minute, which is very slow and makes sure you are full within like 15 minutes, which is usually just over 1/4 cup. Good luck

I am 8 weeks out and able to eat about 1/2 cup. Over about a 30 minute period.

Maybe I need to slow down on my eating. I don't eat slow because it doesn't hurt but I guess that's not the purpose to eat slow, maybe I'll actually feel full. My Dr. emphasized I only need to eat 1/4 C until the 6 month period and then I can up it to 1/2 C.

I am almost 10 weeks post op now. Most times I can only get about 1/4 cup down and I am very full however if it is really mushy stuff like yogurt or oatmeal I can usually eat a few bites more before I hit the wall. I have had a hard time getting more than 550 - 600 calories a day including Protein Shakes and I usually do two of those for 320 total. I have lost 60lbs in 10 weeks. I never ever have thrown up or have dumping syndrome.

I'm 3 months out and I was just told my my NUT to aim for 1000-1200 calories a day and up to 1 1/2 cups of food per meal. I usually eat around 1 cup per meal and about 1000 calories per day. I don't drink Protein shakes but I do add Protein to my coffee every day, the rest of my protein I get from food.< /p>

I am 19 months post-op on RNY. In the early stages after surgery, it is important to focus on getting in the required amounts of Vitamins, Protein and fluids. During the weight loss stage, your body is converting your fat into energy that drives your body. Your body does not need much food and you should stick to your doctors orders on the volume per meal. As you lose fat, you lose weight.

My program required the following meal volumes:

0-8 weeks 1/4 cup per meal

9-15 weeks 3/8 cups

4-6 months 1/2 cups

7-9 months 5/8 cups

10-12 months 3/4 cups

12-18 months 7/16 cups

18 months and beyond 1 cup

So if you are not losing significant weight, it might because you are eating too much during your meals. If that is the case, you might want to first concentrate on making sure you are getting in the required amounts of Vitamins, Protein and fluids. I began by consuming 3 Protein shakes per day and as my meal volume increased, I was able to reduce this down to 2 per day and then 1 per day and finally none. But I concentrated on consuming high protein homemade Soups and chili, so that by the time I was up to a cup per meal, I was taking in 65 grams of protein per day in my meals alone.

Also it might be worth your time to determine how many calories per day you are consuming. This could tell you if your leveling off on weight loss is associated with the type of foods you are consuming. At the earlier stages, I was down to a ridiculously low level of calories per day. And as a result, I was dropping around 2 pounds per day. But then I began to level off. I looked at my caloric intake and decided to drop it a little more and the weight began to drop again.

I am five months postop on Tuesday and I still eat 1/4 cup per meal. That's the instructions I got from my nutritionist and I pretty much follow the rules. Keep up the good work you'll do just fine

I'm 2weeks post op still on liquids from most part . However I'm able to do about 2oz of Soup with no problem. I haven't vomited or had any dumping problems . I'm kinda wondering what's really going on cause I don't want to eat or drink .. But I'll chew ice like a mad woman (lol) I can't stand the Protein, I know it's important for be but its hard to do. I'm kinda at the point of wondering what was I thinking cause I see how friends & family are looking at me like they can't tell I've lost any weight ... But I have just not as much as others we know have

I eat about a half a cup. I don't measure but I know what it looks like in my head. Usually all I can eat is protein! But that's how my dietitian said its suppose to be.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
