How long were you out of work post-op?

Recommended Posts

Hi all! I'm tentatively scheduled for my sleeve surgery on Jan. 15th, and I'm just wondering how long you ended up having to take off work? I work from home, and my work shifts are short-ish--4 hours. I'm hoping to take no more than a week off, if that much, and seriously hoping to just schedule my shifts "around" the surgery so I don't actually have to take time off at all.

What were your experiences? I know it varies from person to person, but I want to know what to prepare my work for--I really would rather not tell them I'm having surgery at all if I can avoid it (one of the perks of working from home, ha!).

Thanks!

Hello! I just finished my first week back! I am a teacher. I was out for 2 weeks. Other than being tired, it was a great week!

My surgery was 10/27 and I was off of work till 11/28. I only work part time and am not the main bread winner in our house. So I took as much time as I could off. I felt very lucky that I could do that.

I really wanted to have everything under control and be on somewhat of a routine before I returned. I was able to get short term disability which I wasn't expecting, :)

I also think if I wanted more time my doc would have wrote me off for it. I feel like I really could have returned to work 2 weeks after if I had to, I had a very good recovery, I was lucky!!

Good Luck with your upcoming surgery!!!

I'm a SAHM, and worked a corporate desk job until a few years ago....I would've needed 3 weeks off! The first 2 weeks were rough for me & then I couldn't get in enough calories to have any kind of energy. Until about the 4th week....it took a full 6 weeks for me to "feel normal"....good luck to youM

@@RedSalamander, seven days (and had to drive nine hours to get to work), but I cleaned my house, grocery shopped, and worked my horses at five days out. I went shopping on the streets of Tijuana and costco two days out. I never felt fatigued, or sick, or had gas pains like some do. I was happy to get back to work and get into a routine again, it took my mind off everything. They say to restrick your lifting, and I tried, but I have a 85 pound pitbull who needs help with his bum getting into my truck so I was hoisting him in. Everyone is different. My friend went back after ten days and had no problems.

I had surgery on Thursday the 11th and was back to work on Monday the 22nd. If I could have worked from home, I could have started working probably a full week earlier, meaning I'd have only missed two work days.

Don't shoot me anyone - but I was back at work in 5 days, including a weekend. I only missed 3 days of work. I am a widow with a special needs son, so I'm the only one working. Thankfully I was good to go, just a bit tired.

Like Cody's mom, I was shopping in TJ the first 2 days. Flew back and drove 5 hours in a snowstorm, plowed my driveway, went grocery shopping and got my hair cut days 3 and 4. Finally relaxed a little days 5 and 6 and back to work on the 7th day. But like Navymom, my time off was over a weekend and Christmas, to minimize the financial hit. I'm a vet tech/partner in a small veterinary practice, so if I don't work, business is closed=no income. No such thing as paid sick days/vacation. I only worked about 30 hours the first week (again, broken up by a weekend and New Years) but back to 40-60 hours after that. I was tired, but really had no problems doing my job.

I had my surgery on a Tuesday and was back to work the following Monday. Luckily, I have my own business so my work was not too strenuous. Everyone is different. Listen to what your body is telling you. I know this is not recommended, but I was driving 3 days after surgery.

Best of luck!

I'm planning to take 18 days, assuming everything goes normal. But, I do have a corporate desk job, so relatively sedentary.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
