Surgery on the 15th...

Recommended Posts

Hi! I'm a newbie here. My name is Susan and I'm 61 years old. I've been on the diet roller-coaster since I was 18. Usually I'd lose 30 pounds. Then gain it back plus. Up and down up and down. I just can't go through another diet only to 'fail' again. I needed something to help me keep it off. I started to read everything I could on weight loss surgery. Thirty years ago I remember thinking to myself that if I had the means I would definitely have opted to have it. Now that the means are available I am looking forward to it. Currently I am 250 pounds with a BMI of 30. I am 5'5 with a large frame. My goal would be perfect at 150. I am on day four of the liquid diet and I feel crappy. I have caffeine withdrawal headaches because I had to stop diet coke. Are there others like me who are having the same problems? How long will they last? I don't want to get discouraged but when I think of eight more days of this I'm not sure I'll make it. Thanks for listening. :)

The headaches will pass. Might try Decaf coffee. It has just a pinch of caf and might take edge off. Or decaf tea. In a few weeks soda will be a thing if your past. I've been off soda 3 years and now even the sight of it grosses me out and I loved my diet coke

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
