Is it normal to feel so weak?

Recommended Posts

I came home from the hospital after a 2 night stay. Now this morning I am totally weak. Probably lack of fluids and healing, but boy am I weak.

Should I be resting when I get like this?

Yes it's totally normal. I was exhausted for the first few weeks after surgery. I had to nap during the day and didn't really like being out for more than an hour as I got worn out. My Doctor advised me to let my body rest and make sure I'm getting enough Protein in as this can really slow you down. Hope you feel better!

I slept 2 days once I was home. I was wiped out. And once I was back on my feet, my body felt like it was recovering from the flu. Body aches and all. By day 5, I felt totally like myself again. You'll get there.

Phew, what a relief.

Can I count the Protein Shake towards my 8 cups of Water?

@@tfarr - the program I'm following/followed separates both. Water/clear liquids is one category and "full" liquids/protein shakes are another. and I had to try to get 40 oz of clear and 40 oz of full or Protein liquids a day. Never made that goal but I tried!

Every program is different. I've learned that off these boards.

I felt so weak before my first week follow-up appointment, I started drinking Isopure clear Protein drinks. The broth wasn't enough for me. Once I started drinking the Isopure clear Protein Drinks, I felt better, not completely but they still helped me to feel less weak.

You do need to get plenty of rest right after surgery. It's major surgery even if it is done laproscopically.

Blessings,

Kathleen

I second Katcloud. It doesn't taste the best and it is a bit pricey but Isopure is totally worth it, the fruit flavored clear-ish (as opposed to the milky protein) isopure. I also found egg flour Soup from a chinese restaurant run through a blender to help me with my energy, I think I had it 3 weeks out but cannot remember for sure.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
