I am on day 4 post op. Today the pain pump was removed at post op doctor visit. Had very little to no pain. All of a sudden this evening the pain sets in on large incision site. Worst pain I have experienced thus far post op. Holding small pillow against body for support. I know doc said that is where stomach was removed but never expected this extreme soreness to set in. Cannot lay in bed hurts to bad to try and get up because using those stomach muscles. Pain pills -taking 2 hardly touches it. Has anyone experienced this?

Yes. You are pretty normal. Once you get taking your pills every 4 to 6 hours things will calm down. I had to sleep in my recliner for the first couple of days because I couldn't lay flat and get up. Get comfortable, take your meds around the clock and hang in there. You really are normal. We've all been there.

I didn't have any pain. If the pain is that bad, I think you should call your surgeon.

The large incision site is the only one that hurts. It's comparable to c section pain. I think it should start to feel better soon. Try not to do anything strenuous and walk around house when you can. It helps

I have pain there too. It's where they separated the muscle to pull the stomach out

Yes, just like a c-section pain.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
