Pre-Surgery Diet - Gained Weight?!

Recommended Posts

I'm feeling super unmotivated. I'm getting the surgery on the 16th and have been doing the pre surgery liquid diet for the past few days.

I'm having about 800 calories a day, mostly from premium Protein Shakes and sugar free pudding or skim milk.

2 out of the 4 days I went to the gym and worked out on the elliptical for an hour.

And somehow I've gained two pounds. It's so frustrating! Is this normal? If I don't lose weight will they cancel my surgery?

You're going to be fine. Weight fluctuates over only a few days. Just stick to your plan, sounds like your doing great. And a hint for after surgery, stay off the scale. At least no more than once a week. If you are doing the work the scale will take care of itself. Keep up the good work

Thanks for the advice :)

I'm really nervous about them canceling or rescheduling my surgery. I'm getting the surgery done where my parents live so I can have a support system while I recover. I've had to coordinate flights and getting time off work so I guess I'm just anxious that the timing will mess it up.

I'm getting mine done on the 15th, and my Weightloss has stopped! I was worried about the same thing and my doctor told me that leading up to the surgery my body is dealing with alot of emotions and adjusting to the liquid diet so I shouldn't worry!

A week into my pre-op diet, I also had a gain for no reason I could figure out. Hang in there, after a day or so, I lost it again. And now I'm back to losing. As long as you stick to you plan, I can't see it not doing what the doctor wants, gain or lose.

I'm feeling very guilty right now... My doctor has his patients do a two week diet He allows us to have vegetables but today as a cook for my family Sunday dinner I ended up eating eating a chicken wingette. Then we went to a Christmas Model Train Show and I had a little bit of popcorn. I feel so guilty I don't know if I ruined possibility of surgery even though I still have 10 days to go.

I know the feeling because I had a few chips yesterday and really felt guilty! My program coordinator said to not give up just because I had a lapse, the doctor wants us to lose weight before the surgery and she understood how hard it is to give up food cold Turkey. So we all have had those moments and the key is to get back on track.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
