Meal Replacements = Bad Skin!

Recommended Posts

Hello, I am scheduled for my surgery on December 16th and I started my Meal Replacements 4 days ago. Everything is going well and i have lost 5 pounds so far BUT I am breaking out like crazy! Has anyone else had this reaction with the Meal Replacement shakes? I have never really had an acne issue but the past two days my whole face as exploded! Because I am not eating or drinking anything other then the shakes and Water I am assuming it is because of the shakes. Help!

According to my dermatologist, acne doesn't have that much to do with what you eat. I know I've always been told that it did. It really has mostly to do with hormones and stress. I broke out bad before surgery as well, but I blamed it more on nerves and stress. Have you been somewhat of a nervous wreck about your upcoming surgery? Are you getting enough sleep? I would see a dermatologist after surgery if this problem continues.

@@zmt1990 Whenever I start a new diet (so.....all 6 million times) I have skin changes. One esthetician I asked about it said that zits/acne takes a few days to emerge. She suggested my breakouts might be my body ridding itself of toxins/grease/etc in response to a new, healthier diet. Stress plays big time into breakouts as well.

I would still call your doc or a dermatologist to put your mind at ease :)

Also, I tried a baking soda & lemon juice mask I found on Pinterest, it did wonders to help clear up some skin issues I had!

Take care :)

Sounds like me when my body starts to detox or go through withdrawal. Seems like you're eating much cleaner so your body is getting rid of some toxins. I would still contact your Doctor just in case. Good luck and great job sticking to the plan!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
