You've lost 70 pounds, Hooray. You seem to be doing everything right. What is going on to make you feel stuck?

Hi,

We all hit plateau's :) It's ok! Just check that you are getting in all your Protein, Water and that your caloric intake is upwards of 800 calories. Also, check that you are not "stopped up" and going poo-poo at least every other day. If not, dulcolax will help. I went through it about 1 month - 6 weeks after surgery and still have trouble once in a while.

My plateau/stall lasted for a month, but then I started back up. Your body has to adjust to it's new idea of losing weight and an stall here and there, is to be expected.

You are doing really well! Keep your chin up :) This is only a bump in the road!

Clarissa

Plateau's are normal, Water is a culprit. So are regular BM's I like the Fiber gummies I get from costco. Water is also your best friend. I wish my weight loss had been as rapid... ah well....

Geez - I'd kill to have lost 70lbs in less than 9 weeks. I had surgery on 11/04 and since surgery I've lost 17 lbs. I weigh 317 lbs.... It is scary ... and I can't figure it out. My first plateau started on the third week...and this is the 5th... and I've only lost a 1lb this week!

I'm eating roughly 800 calories - and drinking at least 64oz of Water. I feel like I can eat more at each meal...and I also feel like I'm hungry all the time....ok not all the time...but a lot of the time.

I'm so frustrated!

Surgery date Nov 24th. Had my first vomiting episode since being in hospital. Not good. But walking around for about 20 minutes feeling better. Still having trouble getting everything in. But must be working down 33 pounds and feel ok. Could probably walk more if weather would cooperate.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
