i have kids 3-11 had my mom for two weeks, by the third week i was able to function but limited in what i could lift i agree everyone is different with recovery and maybe if you arranged for two weeks of help and determine your real need as you go. .

Hope everything is going well with your recovery!!

All you guys amaze me. I am such a big baby. My husband took a whole week off of work, my mom flew in to be with me for two weeks, and I was off work for just about 5 weeks (I would have taken longer but hubby said I had to go back LOL) I only work part time so financially we were fine.

Honestly I was feeling pretty good and if I had to be by myself I could have after the first week. My husband is very very helpful around the house and my 15 yr old daughter took great care of me too. And to me it is always nice to have your mommy around when you are sick no matter how old you are. :)

Because I only work part time, I could have gone back to work after week two, but it was soooo nice to have the time off to get used to my new eating and routines.

Again, I really hope you are doing well, let's us know how it's going!!!!

My program recommends people take 2 - 4 weeks off for just that very reason. Most people feel pretty good after the first week but it's getting used to the Protein Drinks and getting in the fluids. Depending on the type of work you do finding a workable schedule for the eating/drinking make be a bit of a challenge and they want people to be comfortable with that before they return to work.

Luckily my husband works at home and my kids are teenagers. I'm on day 6 and have lost 21 lbs so far. I'm getting in about 32 ounces and 70 grams of Protein. I find myself needing a nap daily for about 1.5 hours. It's been cold and raining since I came home so I can't walk outside. I ride my stationary bike for 5 minute intervals, a couple times a day. I don't have a lot of energy. I plan on going to the store tomorrow to get some walking in. Anyone else having troubles with low energy?

@@Susanfnp13 Your energy level sounds about right for so soon after surgery. Just go with it. Your body is adjusting to all the new changes, it's perfectly normal.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
