I definitely love this thread and with the seeming spike in mental illness, I truly believe food has a large connection to it. As you said op, all of those chemicals in foods MUST affect us in other ways too. I don't see how we can digest so many things we can't even pronounce and think none of it bothers us mentally. Congratulations op on your many successes!

The first part of your post hit me hard... I was so sad at the thought of having to give up binge eating. I could easily have eaten a large pizza before. And probably more. And that type of eating became so regular to me I was scared i wouldn't be able to break it even with surgery, but I was shocked at feeling a sense of grief and loss at not being able to consume 4 meals at one time. I know now that this sense of loss is exactly why I needed this surgery. I need to live. Not just breathe and feel my heart beat, but truly be ALIVE. I have a long way to go, but I'm at peace with where I'm starting.

I remember eating 3 large pizzas in one day. I also used to eat 2 of those 1lb Bomb burritos a couple times per week.

I made a vow to begin breaking my food compulsions before surgery. For me, it made such a difference to my post-surgery outlook.

I can still feel myself wanting to graze even on the healthier foods, but the compulsion is not nearly as strong as it was when eating the heavily-processed foods before I started changing my lifestyle.

I love my sleeve!

I do put on my XXL shirts just about every weekend when I'm cleaning the house or just lounging. I love to take a gander at myself in those shirts in the mirror. It's really an inspiration for how much I've accomplished and to remind me not to fall back into old lifestyles. Then I put on a medium shirt when I'm headed to the gym and really pat myself on the back!

It gets better. I love hearing from friends and even my customers tell me... OMG you look so good. You've lost so much weight. I love hearing it because I know its working. I've been ordering more clothes, all smaller sizes.

I know I'l have to order even smaller clothes soon.

I don't miss binge eating at all.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
