I have a high deductible plan for my insurance through BCBS. Does anyone know the average cost of 10 days? I checked with my pharmacy and they said around $500. Just curious if that seems right.

Yep. I have a bcbs high deductible plan as well - $2500.00 and the lovenox was 427.00

I did it with my ankle surgery 10 years ago and surgeon told me I will have it again. It's not so bad and it's temporary.

My NUT just told me it depends on the surgeon. Not everyone has to do it. ????

My surgery is coming on December 12th, and my surgeon has already told me that I have to do it for 12 days 3x a day after I leave the hospital.

My daughter lives with me and she's going to have to do it for me. How did you guys get past the mental part of injecting yourself? My brain just won't wrap around sticking myself with a needle. I get panicky just thinking about it.

I was given lovenox shots while I was in the hospital, but I never had to continue them after I went home.

@@GreenEyes604, did your doctor tell you why you have to do so much (3 X per day)? I haven't noticed any one here getting such a high dose, nor have I seen that in clinical practice. Btw, I'm not questioning your surgeon's judgement at all. I just think it would benefit others here to know why there's such a difference in doses. In essence, maybe others have the same medical condition(s) and your info could help them address this topic with their own surgeon. Thanks!

@@BitterSweet* I completely understand where you're coming from, however I will have to ask about that when I see her for my final pre-op tomorrow. It's actually 2x per day for 12 days with Lovenox, and 3x per day with Heparin. It all depends on which one my insurance company will pay for.

To my knowledge I do not have any pre-existing condition that would require me to have to take addition injections after I leave the hospital. I do have Rheumatoid Arthritis, and maybe one of the medications I take for that might have something to do with it.

@GreenEye At least you can be pretty confident you wont be getting blood clots! From the posters above it seems the needles are super tiny, and they go just beneath the skin, not into the muscle, so I don't think it will be such a big deal.

@@wannaBthinsoon I get it that its just beneath the skin and all, its just I don't think my brain will allow me to stick myself. I'm not worried about it hurting at all, its just I would have to pay attention to what I'm doing and I can't see myself watching it.

I have to give me 2 shots per day with Insulin. The first time I was scared after you see it doesn't hurt and it is easy you will do alright.

I HATE needles. Like, seriously hate them. I cringe and close my eyes when I get any shot and usually cry when I get an IV. That said, the lovenox shots are surprisingly easy to take. I only actually felt the needle once in the 10 days I had to do it. Other than that one time, I literally could not even feel the needle.
