I had my lap band surgery August 15th 2014. So far I have lost 33lbs and feeling much better about myself. I started my journey at 257lbs I am currently 224lbs. I made my decision for health reasons, myself esteem and I needed to get back into my uniform (lol). Fortunately my health has improved, I am feeling much better about myself and I didn't have to get bigger uniforms. I did gain about 2lbs over the Thanksgiving holiday, but I have picked myself up and have moved on. I know having lap band surgery has been one if the best decisions I have made.

Keep it up.... there are a lot band haters on this forum, don't let them discourage you! The band has worked for me, and many others! I managed to put on few pounds in the past month (my fault!!) but I will get back on track!

The lapband saved my life. I had diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure and was barely mobile. I have lots of energy and feel better than I have in many years. I have had zero problems and as long as I do my part the band does it's part. I did not gain during Thanksgiving and I even ate a little pumpkin pie. I am thankful every day that I have the band.

Sharpie that is awesome. Since the lap band surgery I no longer have to take blood pressure medication anymore, but due to my heart attack unable to stop the cholesterol medication. I to am thankful for my band. Everything has been great, except I have problems go to the bathroom. Has anyone else experience the same?

Hi Hill, I was a volume eater -- great big salads, lots of veggies, etc. And my digestion really changed post-surgery. Took me a little while to get into the right mode for me. I have chia seeds in my yogurt and sometimes chew up a few prunes. Other people use a Fiber like Benefiber, etc. Different things work for different people so you have to find what's good for your body. I also drink aloe 1/2 cup in a 32 ounce glass jar of Water with a splash of unsweetened cranberry. It's my comfort drink and I have a couples of bottles a day -- the aloe is probably helping a lot. Good luck -- you'll figure this out. Digestion is so important.......

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
