chubbsey1 126 Posted December 3, 2014 Hi All, I'm done with all the hoop jumping except for two more weigh-ins, my question is do we have any input as far as our surgery date goes or does the insurance company kind of say screw you! and this is your Date! Just asking because it would be nice to coordinate a date that works well for me and my family. Thanks in advance.
Bufflehead 6,358 Posted December 3, 2014 I think it's usually the surgeon who picks your date. The office will typically offer you the first available, but if that doesn't work for you, they can go over their schedule and find a later date that does. mfm116 55 Posted December 3, 2014 I was sleeved in June. Per my insurance, I had to have my surgery done before the end of August or they would not cover it after that. I would check with them first and see if there are any type of time restrictions. Other than that, my surgeon had given me his next available date and I took it. He only does surgeries on Tuesdays and Thursdays so I kind of had an idea to when it would be. I would run it by your insurance first, and then I'm sure your doctor will work with you on a date. Good luck!
GreenEyes604 753 Posted December 3, 2014 I think it mostly depends on your surgeon's schedule. My surgeon's assistant gave me a number of different dates that my doctor was available, and I got to pick which date I wanted.
samuelsmom 670 Posted December 3, 2014 Just to go along with what the others said-- most surgeons have certain days that they can do surgery at the hospital. The surgeon's office staff, once you have completed all of the pre-op requirements and have insurance approval, usually communicates with the hospital and the patients. Typically you'll be offered a certain date. If that works, great. If not, the surgeon's staff will work with you to get you scheduled on an available date. I'm sure there are some variations depending on the office practice, however, this should give you a good idea of the process. Good Luck!

landerr 10 Posted December 3, 2014 I travel a lot for work and the only 2 months I don't are Nov & Dec, so my surgeon let me pick my date.
