Retaining fluid....

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved exactly a week ago & have lost nothing. I actually have gained a few pounds. My feet are swollen so I know I'm still retaining Fluid. I know when I had a csection, I was out of the hospital like 3 weeks with no weight loss and all of a sudden 40 lbs dropped in a week. It doesn't help that I'm diabetic on meds but when in the hospital they shot me up with insulin which made me gain 20 lbs n one week when I first started when pregnant. So really I'm just wondering if anyone has experienced this or been in same situation. I see a lot about people not losing weight but not much about my situation.... Retaining fluid & the insulin issue... Please help. I'm walking my butt off & feel great but disappointed over no weight loss... :(

Sleeve date 11/26/14

Weight 247

Today weight 251

Yes, this is very common. The only way to solve it is by drinking as much plain Water as you can stand, minimize or eliminate sodium, and go for a long walk.

My doc told me to not weigh myself for at least 10 days after the surgery because everyone gains because of Water. Just keep yourself hydrated and make sure you're peeing a lot. You'll be fine :) it's normal.

It took me 11 days to lose all that I gained the day of surgery. Don't worry about it. I would suggest not even weighing yourself for the first month. There will be many more stalls and even gains along the way...it's all normal.

U need to call your surgeon. Swelling in the feet can be a sign of other post op issues. The weight loss will come. Your edema needs to be checked out ASAP.

Well they are already pretty much normal now & it happened just like this when I had a baby. Thanks for the concern.

Sleeve was 1-28-15, which is just 4 days ago. Everything went good, I was in hospital for 2 days.

My question is, did anyone else gain weight in the hospital? I came home weighing 15 pounds more than on my surgery date.

I was just thinking the same thing I lost like 15 after I was sleeved but now I've gained back like 4lbs!

I've officially decided to stay off the scale until my follow ups and try and focus on staying hydrated.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
