Nutrition appointments...

Recommended Posts

Hello!

My consultation went well, the doctor drew me a picture of my stomach and showed me how much he would cut off, he said right now my stomach can hold two plates of Thanksgiving dinner and after the surgery it will be the size of a large banana. Yikes! Lol. It went a little quick I thought, I didn't have a chance to ask any questions, he basically covered everything and then he escorted me to the insurance woman's office.

With my insurance, Aetna, I have to do 3 months of nutrition appointments. I wasn't told what all that would entail, the woman just made me 3 appts and I was on my way. I called back a couple of weeks later and the woman at the front desk told me I didn't even have to come in for the appts, that I could just call in and talk to her on the phone. Is this normal? I thought they would have to weigh me, etc. She said "Just don't gain weight". Hmm. I'm wondering if you all had a similar situation with your doctors office?

aetna's requirement is no net gain during the three month period. my office made me come in and get weighed monthly plus talk to the whole team each visit: nurse, psychologist, nutritionist and exercise physiologist. but that was their requirement, not aetna's.

I have aetna and I'm required to weigh monthly as well. I have been told that I cannot gain from start to finish, and that even a gain from weigh in to weigh in (but still ending lower) could jeopardize my approval. My aetna plan also required a 2 year weight history, and letter of recommendation from my PCP. If there is a surgical coordinator where you go, I'm sure she/he could write down everything you'll need so you have time to get it all together!

I wouldn't call that "normal" but it sounds pretty easy. It sounds like they need to slow down and clue you in a little better with the details! Sometimes you have to make them. I know I wrote down on a piece of paper all my questions and took them in with me so when I talked with my DR I literally had a pen and checked each question off. So in a way I made him slow down to get all my answers....it's kinda their job!

I have Aetna, and these (all mentioned in the answers above) are all the technical requirements for Aetna to approve the surgery. However as far as calling in for appointments and not having questions answered...not good!! It would certainly be in your best interest to get all the information you can, get every question and concern answered, and take full advantage of all the requirements and appointments. In my case, the nutritionist, the surgeon, my PCP...I went to each one of them with my written list of questions and concerns, and they all were very cooperative in answering everything for me. To this day when I go for my follow-up visits, I still go with my question list, to the point where I'm now known for being the one with all the questions! They seem to like this, since it's shows that I'm fully engaged and invested in the whole idea of weight loss and better health.

I wish you the very best, and much success in your journey!!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
