I feel fine when I'm on my meds. When they wear off my shoulders and back hurt like hell. But it's my second day. Good luck on yours.

I used an ice pack around my abdomen where my lower incisions were located, and lying on the side opposite the port site with one leg and one arm over a couple pillows relieved pressure. I also ate A LOT of gas-x.

The shoulder pain is pretty normal, result of them messing with your diaphragm and also a result of the gas that they use to blow up your abdominal cavity during the procedure.

Back pain may be from lying flat on your back during the procedure.

All sounds very normal, it will continue to get better each day, just listen to your body, do not over do it.

Congratulations !

Get up and walk as much as you can. By day 3 I was walking over a mile. Helps so much with the gas pains. Unfortunately Walgreens had a malfunction after my surgery and would not fill my meds saying the doctor didn't have authorization to prescribe it (he did - computer issue) so I never used the pain meds. I think it helped me get up and out of bed more because I could feel the pain subside when I would. I am 10 days post op and up to 4 miles a day and have no complaints! Just keep pushing forward. Good luck on your journey!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
