Nervous and not sure what I should be doing to prepare

Recommended Posts

So.....I got my approval for surgery after 3 days submission from my physician! Pretty awesome right?! Well now I'm getting nervous and excited all at the same time because this is becoming more "real" to me, and 1/12/15 will be here in no time. All of that nutritional counseling, and talks have went out the door because I am panicking! YIKES! What should I order to make sure my Protein is in stock for after surgery? I've heard the Unjury is good and have some samples I'll be trying, but how much of it do I realistically need? I have to do a liquid diet for two weeks and was told I can use regular broth, and of course the unjury, but I'm worried I'll get tired of it quickly. Any other suggestions?

I swear someone needs to make a bariatric sugery book from their experience with all kinds of recipies for the post surgery process! If there is one then please feel free to direct my attention to it. One can only drink so many shakes and we need to get in 75+ grams of protein!

One last concern....the V word! Vitamins, some folks say Flintstone vitamins twice a day are okay and satisfy your Multivitamin need. Is this true? What kind of Calcium vitamins should I try, what about B-12 vitamins or shots? Help this newbie out please!  :o

I take the Flinstones Multivitamin and Bariatric Advantage brand B12 and Calcium. The unflavored un jury Protein Powder isn't flavored so it isn't likely you'll get sick of it. Every Protein that I liked pre surgery I couldn't stand post surgery so be careful about buying anything flavored in bulk. There are a couple of forums on here where people have posted long lists of Protein Drink recipes so that should help you out.

Thanks @wannaBthinsoon. I was thinking of buying the unflavored one because she said it could be added to oatmeal and other dishes without little interference of taste.

Your posts sound a little like you are bouncing off the walls! lol I can imagine I will be just as excited as you are today. If you order the GENEPRO from Amazon, I got it delivered in 3 days. I was shocked that it really and truly has no taste. I tried the unjury unflavored in my oatmeal, and had to throw it away. It had a horrible after taste. I even tried holding my nose to eat it, and nope, couldn't do it. I'll be following you to see what kind of Vitamins are suggested, as I haven't looked into those yet. I may just purchase them from my surgeons office. Take care, and try to calm down! HA!!

Vitamins I was told 2 Flinstones complete were good to use.

I also bought lots of different Protein Drinks in chocolate... I hate chocolate now! Chocolate of any kind I just can't tolerate it. My better half is on the slim fast diet with me so he is drinking all my Protein drinks that I cant. So yes do buy 1 or 2 of something but remember your taste can change after surgery.

Some of the Protein powders come in huge containers. I way overbought and after one year still have six open ones left, and that is after I threw out several that I just couldn't handle anymore. They all come quickly enough, and if you run out, you can always get some at the grocery, GNC, or pharmacy until you reorder.

Do you take more than the multi? Trying to research affordable vitamins! Just don't wanna miss anything.

My program gave us a handbook at the first doctor's appointment. It became my bible for those first 6 weeks. I had to take into consideration when choosing a Protein drink as well as vitamins/supplements that I'm I'm vegetarian and I'm allergic to most artificial sweeteners and stevia. In my hand book was 2 page list of some of the more popular brands. powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury for example, was out. It has aspartame aka sweet n low.

I would recommend trying a variety in all 2 forms: powder, liquid and premade. Once you find a few you like, buy no more than 2 weeks worth. Some people have reported their taste buds changed post-op. You don't want to get stuck with loads of something you can't tolerate.

Then there were vitamins/supplements. My doctor recommends the full regimen of AM/PM Multi, Vit D3, Calcium Citrate+D and B12. The handbook had 3 full pages front & back on that! Here I also had to be on guard for ingredients that could trigger my seafood allergy & artificial dyes. Flintstones were a no go because I can't do artificial dyes/food colorings.

I would also stock up on your liquids; herbal teas, milk or non dairy drink of choice and cream Soups or Soups that can be pureed & thinned out if necessary, hummus and yogurt.

Hope this helps. Congrats on your surgery date!

@@mduffield I take the multi complete and a separate Calcium chew. That's all my surgeon recommended. The price I was sharing is just for the multi. I am also taking a different brand of a sublingual Biotin

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
