I'm having the bi pass simply because my doc said with my weight I would benefit more from it over the sleeve.

I've been doing the liquid for 2meals a day then having dinner or lunch but yes it will be a bit scary.....

I tried that in Friday and felt like my blood sugar was really low and I was shakey, have you noticed that at all? Maybe I'm not doing it right, any advise?

I have not heard about teeth falling out???!! But with everything else I think if you take all of your med/vitamins, get all our Protein and Water in you should be fine :) and not experience any kind of loss except for the fluffy kind lol

I was at support group last week, it wasn't the doc that discussed it, rather the supplement rep from Bariatric Advantage. He said teeth and bone density loss are something that can happen 5-10 yrs post op without monitoring your bloodwork every 6 months. Regardless of what supplements used he said the biannual bloodwork is lifelong and needed. He too was a bypass patient and claims to do well 10 yrs postop

Personally, I think an important thing to keep pointing out is for all of these horror stories is that they can possibly occur if you don't follow your surgeon's advice and/or don't keep up with your medical checkups after surgery. Do your bones lose density? Yep. So we take extra Calcium. Could you experience hair loss? Yep. So we make sure to get plenty of Protein to try and prevent it. No surgery is risk-free, and no side effect can be guaranteed it won't happen. Like Thin-for-Kidney said, follow what your doc tells you, and you'll have the best chance of sailing through :)

SuzeMuze is right, I've had 3 csections, my gall bladder removed, and other surgeries, nothing is without risk. I'm going against a clock, lose weight before my heart goes boom, so for me, little room to error but I will do the best I can with what I have to work with.

I feel like if I don't get this weight off me then I am going to have all the other bad things that happen when you cart around 100 pounds of extra weight, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, joint pain, etc. I would rather have this surgery and get healthy and probably lose some hair but this will grow back.

Yes I've had my gall bladder take out.... And back surgery I guess it's just the hair that worries me.... I have really short hair and I just don't want clumps coming out...... That's all :/

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
